Position Title: Head Coach, Men’s Basketball (AY)

Position Starts: 04/01/2025

Unit: Intercollegiate Athletics

Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience. ($8,593.00 - $11,642.00 per month).

Position Summary:

Chico State is currently inviting applications for the position of Basketball Coach, with the title of Head Coach, Men’s Basketball Coach. The Coach will oversee the day-to-day operations of our successful NCAA Division II men’s basketball program. This includes, but is not limited to, recruiting, preparation for practice and competition scheduling, team travel organization, athletic scholarships, compliance with all NCAA rules, and student-athlete welfare. The Coach will work with the student athlete success staff in fostering academic success for all student athletes including graduation rates and retention rates of student-athletes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5 years of recent basketball coaching experience
  • Knowledge of NCAA compliance rules and regulations
  • No major NCAA violations
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to maintain/obtain a California Driver's License and campus defensive driving certification
  • Ability to maintain/obtain CPR, First Aid and AED certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree
  • 5 years of recent collegiate basketball coaching experience
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate a commitment to diversity and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups that relates to coaching responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and executing a comprehensive vision and strategy for the men’s basketball program, ensuring alignment with the university’s athletic and academic objectives.
  • Providing expert coaching to student-athletes, focusing on skill enhancement, tactical understanding, and fostering a culture of discipline and teamwork.
  • Identifying and attracting talented students-athletes who align with the university’s standards and the program’s competitive goals.
  • Managing the program’s budget, scheduling, travel arrangements, and compliance with NCAA regulations and university policies.
  • Representing the program in community events, media interactions, and maintaining positive relationships with alumni, supporters, and the broader community.
  • Ensuring student-athletes maintain academic eligibility and supporting their academic success.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with the women’s basket ball coach to build out a staff of assistant coaches for event coverage, shared facility use, competitive schedule development and administration of home events.
  • Work collaboratively with Athletics Advancement Officer to cultivate relationships with alumni and other friends/supporters; participate in fundraising and public relations activities.
