Position Description

Position Summary

San Diego State University is seeking a dedicated and organized individual to join our football program as a Football Operations Assistant. Under the general supervision of the Director of Football Operations, this role involves providing a range of operational, administrative, technical, and analytical support to ensure the smooth functioning of the football program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Travel Coordination: Assist with organizing and making travel arrangements for the football team, including processing airline, hotel, and bus contracts.
  • Administrative Support: Perform various operational administrative duties to support the football program.
  • Technical and Analytical Tasks: Handle technical and analytical duties of limited to moderate complexity to aid in the efficient operation of the football program.
  • Departmental Liaison: Serve as the business-related liaison between the football program and other departments within the university.

Position Information

  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position with an anticipated end date of February 28, 2026, with the possibility of reappointment. 
  • This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. 
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. (Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel)
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The Department of Athletics, utilizing the services of over 150 employees, is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at San Diego State University. Currently, there are 18 sport programs, approximately 450 student-athletes, and 17 offices in the department. The offices include the following: The Aztec Club, Administration, Athletic Medicine, Business Office, Compliance, Corporate Sales, Development, Equipment, Event Management/Facilities and Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, Media Relations, Strength and Conditioning, Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, Ticket Office, and Video.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

Key Qualifications

  • Have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with fellow employees and other campus staff, faculty, boosters, student-athletes, and community members. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate and align with the vision and message of the head football coach.
  • Division I football operations experience.
  • Mountain West Conference and NCAA recruiting practices and regulations knowledge is preferred.
  • Customer service and public relations experience.
  • Experience coordinating events.
  • Experience with Teamworks Suite software program. 
  • Experience managing calendars and the ability to quickly adapt to new office support technology systems.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,779 per month. 

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,598 - $8,318 per month.
