RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Applies extensive expertise in online design theory, learning theory, and practices to ensure the design and facilitation of accessible, inclusive, and equity minded online learning experiences at the course and program level. In collaboration with the Teaching & Learning Innovations team manages the design, development, and facilitation of courses, programs, and resources to support faculty in designing, developing, and teaching online, blended, and digitally mediated courses. Consults with academic programs interested in blended and online learning programs. Create and facilitate training, workshops, templates, and design guides that help faculty and staff who work in student support capacities to develop skills in online course design and teaching.  Expand and maintain an online community for faculty on our campus who are focused on innovation in teaching and learning. Develops and manages online teaching and learning quality assurance (i.e. processes that support informal online and mixed-modality course review/feedback).

When managing projects: Builds consensus on learning design decisions with faculty and team members’ expertise; facilitates and updates course development and/or programmatic workflows; ensure instructional integrity with quality assurance and accessibility checks for learning design projects; maintain project timelines; coordinate efforts between the different roles of a project team; provide project status updates to key stakeholders and partners.

Data driven decision making: Consults available institutional data and current scholarly literature to inform program and design decisions. Will research emerging technologies and effective practices for online and blended instruction. Will gather and analyze data to evaluate the impact of learning design projects on faculty and when possible, student success.

Institutional and System-wide Collaboration: Collaborate with faculty via social media, email, blogs, and video conferencing to develop ideas for blended, online, and technology-enhanced instruction. Along with the Teaching & Learning Innovations team, pilot emerging technologies focused on optimizing the online learning experience. Assesses and evaluates learning design programs. Collaborates with the Faculty Development unit for new faculty welcome to teaching at CSUCI. Represents CSUCI at CSU Chancellor’s Office meetings related to system-wide efforts for instructional design, Canvas, Online Course Services, and manages annual reporting requirements.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in any academic discipline required.  Advanced degree in Education or related field highly desirable.

Experience: Must have a growing vision of the role of information technology services in higher education, grounded in advanced and comprehensive expertise in this field. Evidence of the ability to envision innovative programs and products, and to implement these programs and products on a university campus is highly desirable.  Demonstrable expertise in online and blended learning required.

Other Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge about optimizing online learning desirable. Knowledge of a wide range of educational technologies is required. Must possess an understanding of Learning Management Systems.  Recent experience in educational technology and blended or online teaching experience is also required. Knowledge of WordPress, VoiceThread, and Canvas a plus.

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Hiring Salary: $5,158 - $6,300 per month
