Major Duties

Under general supervision, the Mail Clerk performs work involving the daily collection, coordination, sorting, distribution, and forwarding of United States mail and other printed and packaged materials for all residents living in University Park Apartments and Suites and University Village Apartments. The incumbent assists in hiring and training Mail Assistants and coordinating mailbox key/combination distribution.

  • Maintains processes for distribution of packages, and the database of current resident mailbox numbers and forwarding addresses.
  • Handles requests for flyer distribution from campus and community organizations.
  • Assists with the hiring and training of student Mail Assistants and maintains student Mail Assistant work schedule, work flow, and quality of work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • One year of general office clerical work, stock clerk work or delivery service work.
  • LICENSE: CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER'S LICENSE.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • General knowledge of office methods, supplies and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of current postage rates and shipping rules and regulations.
  • Ability and skills to: accurately interpret and apply current postage rate charts and regulations; spell correctly; read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; problem solve; perform mathematical calculations quickly and accurately; lift and move bags of mail;
  • Ability and skills to: learn the organizational structure, programs, and physical layout of the campus; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; and ability to operate standard office equipment.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver and more.
  • Classification: Mail Clerk / 1505 / 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $3680 - $3749 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $3680 - $5263 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period. 
  • The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
