THE DEPARTMENT:
Outreach, Recruitment & Educational Partnerships (OREP) is responsible for outreach and recruitment of prospective domestic undergraduate students and plays a key role in enrollment planning and reporting. OREP is charged with promoting the image of the University, it’s programs and uniqueness; attracting and recruiting a diverse and high achieving pool of applicants; developing relationships and collaborations with campus external and internal constituents; and, providing timely, accurate and comprehensive services to students and campus through point of inquiry and enrollment. OREP is responsible for compliance with federal, state, CSU system and University requirements and the timely and accurate dissemination of information to students, parents, campus constituents, the CSU Chancellor's Office, and the external community. OREP provides dedicated quality outreach and recruitment programs and strategic communication to prospective students, schools and community organizations and the delivery of student services that support recruitment, college readiness, and persistence. Programs include domestic undergraduate outreach, out-of-state recruitment, and campus tour programs. OREP reports to the Presidential Associate Community Partnerships and Expanding Access in the Office of the President.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Counseling and Advising Services:
- Strategic Planning: Design, develop, implement, and evaluate inclusive strategies to provide timely and accurate information about Cal Poly Pomona, the admissions process, and the California State University system to students, parents, and other stakeholders.
- Community Engagement: Provide supportive counseling services at community colleges and high schools, conducting pre-admissions advising.
- Information Sharing: Educate stakeholders about admissions eligibility requirements and selection criteria, and provide comprehensive information to prospective undergraduate and graduate students.
- Holistic Support: Assist students with a range of concerns, using tact and sensitivity regarding personal issues such as residency status, disabilities, academic standing, and financial hardship.
- Resource Guidance: Connect students with campus departments and services based on individual needs and circumstances.
- Workshops and Advising: Develop and conduct engaging workshops on application processes, transfer procedures, standardized testing, and financial aid.
- Knowledge Maintenance: Stay current with professional practices, counseling theories, enrollment strategies, trends, and admissions policies.
- Program Development: Contribute to on- and off-campus programs that support academic excellence, equity, and diversity.
Recruitment:
- Strategic Support: Assist in developing and executing comprehensive strategies for high school and transfer student recruitment, including out-of-state efforts.
- Performance Indicators: Meet key performance indicators for recruitment activities, examining enrollment trends to inform strategy.
- Liaison Role: Serve as a point of contact with out-of-state schools, providing information and support to prospective students.
- Promotional Activities: Support the development of recruiting materials and branding to increase Cal Poly Pomona’s exposure.
- Presentations: Conduct motivational and informational presentations for diverse audiences regarding academic, cultural, and student assistance programs.
- Community Representation: Represent the University at community events, college fairs, and other recruitment activities.
- Collaboration: Work with campus partners to facilitate the enrollment of students from special programs and populations.
Transfer Success Pathways Coordination:
- Relationship Building: Maintain and foster relationships with prospective students, applicants, counselors, and parents regarding the Transfer Success Pathways program.
- Program Coordination: Coordinate, develop, implement, and assess campus events and activities related to the Transfer Success Pathways program.
- Pre-Admission Counseling: Provide admissions information and pre-admission counseling via various channels to prospective students and applicants.
- Education Planning: Assist students in developing education plans to transfer to the University within the designated timeframe.
- Data Management: Utilize the Transfer Planner system to track student progress and provide necessary data for reporting.
- Communication: Ensure consistent and effective communication with prospective students and campus leadership about the program.
- Event Representation: Promote the Transfer Success Pathways program at various recruitment events.

OREP:
- Staff Development: Participate in staff development, meetings, and major events to promote the University.
- System Testing: Conduct testing of systems used by OREP, adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Compliance and Integrity: Ensure compliance with laws and policies, maintaining the integrity of student records and data.
- Extended Support: Work extended hours, weekends, and evenings as needed to support OREP programs and services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree - Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
- DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State
- Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required. A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior. General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned; general knowledge of individual counseling techniques; general knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned. Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.
- Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on complex student‑related matters; determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature; interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal and social skills in dealing with a diversity of people.
- Ability to work independently; to use good judgment, take initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments; attention to detail and follow-through.
- Must have the ability to present and articulate complex requirements and policies concerning enrollment services; be able to respond to in- person, telephone and electronic inquiries.
- Must have proficiency with computers, the Internet, word-processing and simple databases.
- Specialized skills desirable: experience and leading student workers.
- Preferred: bilingual in any one of the following languages: Spanish, Chinese Mandarin, Vietnamese, Korean, Hmong, Sign Language, or Tagalog.
- As assigned, able to work extended hours, evening, Saturday and Sundays in support of departmental or campus programs and events.

CSU Classification Salary Range
This position is part of the Student Services Professional (SSP) bargaining unit 4. The CSU Classification Standards for this position are located on the CSU Classification Standards website.The CSU Salary Schedule is located on the CSU Salary Schedule website. The classification salary range for this position according to the respective skill level is: minimum $5,276 and maximum $7,517 per month. Please refer to the anticipated hiring range for the appropriate salary rate for this particular position.
