Major Duties

Under the general direction of the Manager of Grounds, the Irrigation Specialist performs specialized work on irrigation systems in grounds areas throughout the Campus. The incumbent will be responsible for planning irrigation systems, overseeing systems, and maintaining an irrigation preventive maintenance program.

  • Maintains all irrigation systems and makes repairs on irrigation valves, heads, nozzles, pipes, controllers, and other related irrigation equipment; inspects services and can direct the work of others in the repair and scheduling maintenance on irrigation systems.
  • Coordinates and monitors irrigation schedules through the use of the energy management system computer and other types of controllers.
  • Performs installation and modification of irrigation systems, including soil moisture sensors, flow meters and flow switches. Keep appropriate records and reports including materials use reports and inventory control.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in the care and maintenance of landscaped areas or general grounds, with one year in the maintenance, repair, or modification of irrigation systems and irrigation equipment.
  • LICENSE: CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER’S LICENSE.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of the soil conditions of the various areas of the campus; climate of the area in which the campus is located; soil conditions and vegetation, and the mechanical principles of sprinkler equipment. General knowledge of the kinds of sprinkler control devices and irrigation equipment available on the market.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, estimate and install irrigation systems and develops a working knowledge of the campus infrastructure with regard to irrigation and landscape areas.
  • Ability to plan, estimate costs, and install or modify irrigation systems for particular sections of the campus; repair and maintain existing irrigation systems; operate equipment, such as small trench-diggers; provide lead work direction to others; and read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • Classification: Irrigation Specialist / 0735 / 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $3907 - $4558 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $3907 - $6375 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday 6:00am – 2:30pm; may include evenings and weekends.  
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period. 
  • The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
