Temporary Accounts Payable Lead
(Administrative Analyst/Specialist - Exempt I)
Compensation and Benefits
Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,600 - $5,000 per month
Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,598 - $8,318 per month
- This full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week) position is temporary and expected to end on or before December 31, 2025. Extension of this assignment is contingent upon sufficient additional funding and satisfactory performance.
The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary
This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager and is a member of Accounting Services. Accounting Services is under the Division of Administration and Finance which reports to the Vice President of Administration and Chief Financial Officer.
Under the general supervision of the Accounting Manager, the Accounts Payable Lead is responsible for providing direction and leadwork oversight to the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable unit. The Accounts Payable Lead will plan, coordinate, and monitor Accounts Payable and Receivable activities to maintain an appropriate level of service for daily AP and AR operations with adherence to GAAP standards.
This position works independently with minimal supervision, performs highly complex and challenging accounts payable work that requires broad understanding of accounts payable practices, policies, guidelines, as well as state and university regulations. The Accounts Payable Lead will use their accounts payable expertise to provide expert advice and guidance on the appropriate processes and procedures to resolve unique issues. This position serves as a key member of process improvement initiatives and will be responsible for revising or creating new procedures. The Accounts Payable Lead will be well-versed in all front and back-office roles and duties, with the ability to provide backup support as needed. This position will support the Accounting Manager in general oversight, advisement, training, and coaching of accounts payable technicians. This position will provide overflow support for technical projects and initiatives.
Key Qualifications
- Comprehensive knowledge of financial record-keeping, mathematical and general office methods, procedures, and practices.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Comprehensive knowledge and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PC internet and email.
- Knowledge and adherence to all relevant regulations and policies and procedures.
- General knowledge of the principles of lead work direction and organizing workflow, establishing priorities and promoting teamwork to optimize effectiveness.
- Skill/Ability to:
- Perform critical thinking analysis to diagnose and resolve problems.
- Effectively organize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
- Review financial documents for accuracy, completeness, validity, and adherence to standards.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and prepare written documents and correspondence.
- Apply problem solving techniques; research, interpret and apply written rules, regulations, accounting procedures and practices to the analysis of basic accounting problems.
- Provide customer service, support and serve as a resource to staff, faculty and external agencies in responding to inquiries and providing information.
- Computer skills to appropriately troubleshoot and use financial systems and relevant software applications
- Provide lead work direction and training to other accounts payable staff.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and promote a positive, service oriented collegial work environment.
- Interpersonal, and communication skills, including ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and ability to collaborate across organizational lines.

Education and Experience
- Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or related field.
- Four years of accounts payable and analytics experience in a high-volume accounts payable department, using integrated financial package or suite.
- Or a combination of experience and education which has provided the above knowledge and abilities which at minimum includes equivalent to eight years of complex accounts payable experience or closely related financial record-keeping experience.
- Experience providing leadwork oversight over staff.

- Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of lead or supervisory experience.
- 10+ years of complex accounting experience.
- Experience using PeopleSoft in a government or university environment.
