Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Economics Department Specialist, assists in a department office of approximately 14 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 8 lecturers, 7 teaching assistants, and 10 graduate assistants and student volunteers. Serves as one of the primary resources for information regarding department policy and practice for faculty, staff, and students; provides continuity in policy and procedures; and processes all assignments, meets deadlines, and processes paperwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Receives visitors and telephone calls, as one of two individuals that serves as first point-of-contact for the Economics Department.
- Provides clerical support for the Department - Reproduce instructional materials and coordinate large print orders to Print Shop. Maintain office and inventories office and photocopier supplies. Request supplies from Department Staff as necessary.
- Assists both the Dept Staff and Department Chair with various department projects - Assist department office personnel with making files, organizing notebooks, and setting up meetings.
- Provides student registration and records support - Coordinate course equivalency requests and logs approvals and denials.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with a variety of people--faculty, staff, students, and vendors. Ability to perform and concentrate in noisy environment that involves independent judgment, accuracy, and speed. Working knowledge of Windows, Word, Word Press, Adobe Acrobat Pro, email, spreadsheet, databases, Ad Astra, and CMS for PC. Working knowledge of office methods, procedures, and practices relating to an academic environment. Develop and deliver essential information through written and oral interactions.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
• Equivalent to three years of administrative support experience required.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Academic department experience preferred.
Physical Summary
- Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $3,680 - $5,417 per month.

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.
Duration of Appointment
