Summary

California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor in Electrical Engineering. Candidates must be committed to contributing to an undergraduate-centered, pedagogically innovative, and modern Electrical Engineering degree program. Applications from contemporary areas of research are welcome, including Microelectronics, Analog and Digital Circuit Design, Systems Design, and related fields.

Electrical Engineering is among the fastest growing programs at CSUSM, with state-of-the-art laboratories, ABET accreditation, and close relations with local industry. California State University San Marcos offers competitive salary with a full benefits package including a reduced load for the first year to support the beginning teacher-scholar in this position.

CSUSM values teaching undergraduates and involving them in research. The campus is located on a scenic hillside 15 miles east of the Pacific Ocean and in the San Diego North County region, an area known for its temperate climate and growing technology industries. The University was recently awarded a nearly $5 million grant from the Department of Education’s Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) STEM Program to support our STEM degree programs. Our campus embraces twenty-first-century learning and the teacher-scholar model.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess a B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering and have received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
  • Applicants with ABD status will be considered, but the applicant must possess a doctorate degree by the time of appointment.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, a record of published research commensurate with years of experience, and the ability to develop and sustain a research program that will lead to original, peer-reviewed publications.
  • Candidates must be able to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with departmental colleagues.
  • Candidates must be able to communicate effectively and work cooperatively in an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community that serves the students of the region.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned Ph.D. in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching with research-based and instructional practices such as project-based learning or community service learning, and student support for diverse populations, especially those from groups underrepresented in STEM.
  • Interest in and/or experience with course development, laboratory development, program assessment, and ABET accreditation.
  • Experience building industry partnerships; active participation in professional societies such as the IEEE, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, etc.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research, and/or service.
  • In addition, preference will be given to applicants whose expertise will expand the education and research opportunities the program currently offers for students and be complementary to areas of specialization of existing faculty in the department and college.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $9,166- $9,916 per month

CSU Classification Salary Range: $6,221- $13,224 per month
