(Performing Arts Technician I)

Compensation and Benefits


Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $21.95 - $23.00/hr

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,800 - $6,883 per month

  • This part-time (equivalent to 15 hours per week) position is temporary and expected to end on or before 12/31/2025. Extension of this assignment is contingent upon sufficient additional funding and satisfactory performance.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Department Chair, the Performing Arts Technician I discharges a broad range of responsibilities for a variety of technical specialties that provide production support in the Music Department. This position will require stage set-up of equipment as requested for department events and functions. Weekend and evening work schedule is required.

Using ingenuity, technical abilities and knowledge of production goals and themes, the incumbent produces sound/audio effects or music based on design and director specifications. Work may include: assembling and operating audio equipment requirements; inspecting, repairing and maintaining audio equipment to ensure quality production; participating in performance to assist students in the more technical aspects of audio and music production.

 

Key Qualifications

  • Work with heights and able to use a 30-foot man lift for installations and moving of theatrical fixtures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Learn to troubleshoot and resolve related problems.
  • Ability to:
    • Oversee students involved in productions.
    • Assist faculty, staff, and students with requested concert and stage requirements.
    • Work with minimal technical direction on a wide range of projects.
    • Prioritize and handle multiple projects.
    • Perform standard business math to track and make simple projections.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and promote a positive, service oriented collegial work environment with people of diverse backgrounds.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of one year of experience working for a theater, repertory, or stock company engaged in lighting, sound or related production specialty or professional training or applicable college coursework and practical experience.
