Job Summary

The Associate Director of Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives provides leadership for HSI-related initiatives on campus to increase the capacity of the institution to intentionally serve Latinx students, faculty, and staff and to engage with external organizations and agencies to bring resources to the CSULB community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of a university-wide plan to address the diverse needs of the Latinx community.
  • Support and lead El Concilio for Latinx Success - Call and organizing meetings, maintaining membership, overseeing projects and reports.
  • Liaise with Excelencia for Education, including recruiting and supporting involvement in technical assistance, leadership in Seal recertification applications, support nominations for Excelencia awards.
  • Bring key personnel together to plan for future HSI grants - Monitor RFPs for HSI designated competitions and design proposals.
  • Promote and assist in the assessment of programs for their ability to successfully serve Latinx students, faculty, and staff. Build the capacity of programs for assessment and data-driven decision making.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate possesses knowledge and involvement in professional associations related to Latinx in higher education, along with experience working with college students. They have grant writing experience and are familiar with Federal Grant Opportunities. They demonstrate the potential to develop strong relationships with major foundations supporting higher education initiatives and have a proven track record of leading volunteer organizations. Additionally, they have the capacity to build and execute a vision for Latinx success, coupled with strong networking and collaboration skills.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

•Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of related experience required.

PREFEERED:

•Master’s degree in education or related fields.

• Experience with data analysis, assessment, research, and institutional effectiveness.

• Knowledge and experience with Latinx students, faculty, and staff.

• Strong ability to effectively foster positive, collaborative, and productive relationships with campus constituencies, institutional leaders, faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, and other internal and external audiences.

•Excellent written and oral communication in multicultural settings.

• High level of organizational skills, particularly in project management.

Physical Summary

  • Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $5,537 - $7,405 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,537 - $10,014 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
