Job Summary

The Director of Operations, under general direction of the Executive Director, oversees all day-to-day production and front of house operations of the facility. Primary responsibility is to ensure the safe, efficient, day-to-day functioning of the Carpenter Center and its front of house and production staff so that all CPAC constituencies are provided with an enjoyable, enriching experience. Deliver outstanding, safe, and courteous service to all visitors/customers of the CPAC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Front of House Manager: Directly supervises activities related to House Management. Provides supervisory oversight over all front of house operations, including house management, personnel, patron services, ADA compliance, public safety, and parking services.
  • Production Manager: Directly supervise activities related to Production. Provide supervisory oversight over all technical operations, including scheduling, event staffing, artist hospitality, rental oversight, and all other activities related to CPAC events. Ensure the provision of professional services for CPAC presentations, resident companies, university, and rental events. Deliver outstanding, safe and courteous service to all visitors/customers of the CPAC.
  • Oversee facility and theatrical systems maintenance; Ensure the proper handling of equipment and facility repairs and/or upgrades. Maintain theatre safety.
  • Responsible for the supervisory oversight of all on campus CPAC events and other university departmental requests and productions.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

To ensure efficient, safe, and professional operations of a performing arts facility, it is essential to have comprehensive knowledge of live performing arts events from technical, front of house, and public safety perspectives, creating a welcoming and enjoyable environment for artists, the public, and employees. Strong computer skills are necessary for scheduling, electronic communications, and budgeting, while excellent customer service skills are crucial for maintaining good client and patron relations. Familiarity with a wide variety of performing arts disciplines is needed to anticipate and negotiate the technical needs of clients and CPAC artists. Proficiency in managing a multi-genre performing arts center, including handling fundraising, VIPs, institutional needs, and complex personnel policies, is required. Strong management skills, the ability to prioritize workload, professionalism, and positive interactions with others are vital. Additionally, the ability to assume responsibility for CPAC operations in the absence of the Executive Director, along with being well-organized and effective in both written and oral communication, is imperative.

Education and Experience

• BA in performing-arts related disciplines and/or theatre management, and 5-7 years of related experience. Degree may be substituted by directly related experience.

Physical Summary

  • Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

Licenses / Certificates

• Driver's license preferred.

Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

Compensation

Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $6,907 - $7,701 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU MPP Compensation Summary Range:  The MPP Comp Summary Range for this position is $6,907 - $10,361 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
