Compensation and Benefits


Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,276 - $5,530 per month

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,276 - $7,517 per month

  • This is a full-time, probationary, exempt position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Dean of Students, the Housing Navigator is responsible for providing assistance and support to students who are unhoused and displaced due to lack of resources, leaving an unsafe environment, and changes in previous housing that left them with no immediate options.  The housing navigator provides focused case management, determines housing readiness, accesses appropriate housing assistance programs and works toward permanent housing placement. Duties include securing income documentation, creating a budget/savings plan, coordinating service referrals and crisis intervention. Coordination with the Coordinated Entry System Navigation is required. Needed skill set includes maintenance of thorough and accurate records and collaboration with community partners who provide property management. This position is primarily field based and the housing navigator needs to be able to have good time management skills. The ultimate goal is to ensure that students who come in for services at Fresno State’s Center for Essential Needs are met with a compassionate trauma informed professional who if focused on improving their educational outcomes and linking the student to necessary resources to ensure their safety, stability, retention and graduation, while developing a plan for permanent housing and other critical needed services. 

 

Key Qualifications

  • Analyze, interpret and apply policies and procedures related to admissions, academic programs, general education and related university information.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and prepare detailed written reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations and/or workshops.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action with regards to the pre-admission advising of students individually and in groups.
  • Appropriately and professionally interact with students, faculty and other support staff and apply proper techniques while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature.
  • Understand and abide with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and State of California policy regarding the confidentiality of records.

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related and three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
  • A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

    Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
