Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Supervising Building Services Engineer, responsibilities include but are not limited to installation, maintenance and repair of all types of electric, electronic, and pneumatic control systems and related Energy Management Control systems and provide support as needed to building automated systems such as Fire Alarm Systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Campus-wide building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning services.
- Campus-wide building automation control system services and maintenance.
- Facilities Management Customer Service - Respond to Facilities Management Customer Service generated work orders and after- hours emergencies to resolve reported control systems failures and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning related problems.
- Assist energy management consultants in re-commissioning and modernization of existing building automation system control components to increase the efficiency and reliability of campus heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment.
- Scheduled maintenance - Trains other personnel in troubleshooting, overhaul, calibration and testing for controls to facilitate the maintenance of systems in good operating condition.
- Campus-wide fire and life safety equipment support.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Journey level experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining large, complex, and sophisticated heating, ventilating, refrigeration and air conditioning and water treatment systems. Experience in installing, inspecting, servicing, repairing, replacing, and calibrating, building automation and control systems. Experience working in a university or large institutional setting.
Knowledge and experience with electrical, electronic, and pneumatic controls and Energy Management Systems, Programming experience with Energy Management. Knowledge of systems manufactured by Staefa/Talon, Niagara, and Simplex. Ability to operate tools and equipment specific to this trade. Ability to work hands on with the trade requirement. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Ability to read and interpret written material at a level appropriate to the duties of the position. Ability to perform record keeping functions, complete work orders.

Education and Experience
Equivalent to four years of journey-level experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining large, complex, and sophisticated heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning, and water treatment systems; installing, inspecting, servicing, repairing, replacing, and calibrating building automation and control systems; and using programming features of building automation systems.
Physical Summary
- Heavy work - Job involves lifting more than 40 pounds. Approximately half of the incumbent's time will be spent walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, or climbing.
Licenses / Certificates
• Valid California driver’s license required.
Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

Compensation
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $6,787 - $8,606 per month.
