Varies by assignment and salary is commensurate with experience.

Position Summary

Provide piano or percussion accompaniment for classes, rehearsals, performances, auditions and juries, as assigned by supervisor. Reports to Director of Theatre & Dance.

Accompaniment

  • Provide accompaniment in School of Theatre and Dance rehearsals and performances

At All Times

  • Demonstrate behaviors that are in line with the User-Friendly Principles (P530C) and Principles of Conduct for a Multi-Cultural University (P30D)
  • Demonstrate safe work practices for oneself, others, and the office environment.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledges and Abilities:
Knowledge of fundamentals of musical theory; skill in playing one or more musical instruments as
accompaniment in at least one style or form. Ability to select appropriate dance music/rhymths; ability
to compose or improvise music; ability to transcribe music from recordings.

and

Experience:
Experience which has led to a thorough familiarity with accompanying choral groups and vocal soloists
and/or dancers. Depending upon the position to be filled, experience in coaching performing artists
may be required.

and

Education:
Special training or coursework that would facilitate composing and/or improvising music and/or
coaching and accompanying.

Preferred Qualification

For Piano Accompanist:
• Familiarity with musical theatre and popular vocal/ ensemble repertoire and styles highly preferred.
• Must be advanced pianist with highly developed sight-reading skills.
• Must be able to read open scores four-part choral music
• Successful record of achievement in solo and ensemble performance


For Percussion Accompanist:
• Familiarity with at least one style/form. Familiarity with multiple styles preferred.
• Must be percussionist with highly developed improvisation skills.
• Successful record of achievement in solo and collaborative dance performance
