JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Psychology at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications for its part-time lecturer pool. The department seeks qualified, student-centered instructors to teach undergraduate and, when appropriate based on qualifications and departmental need, graduate courses across the Psychology curriculum.

Areas of instructional need vary by semester and may include, but are not limited to, introductory psychology; research methods and statistics; biological psychology and neuroscience; clinical and counseling psychology; cognitive psychology; developmental psychology; social psychology; industrial-organizational psychology; and other areas represented in the department's curriculum.

Teaching assignments may be available at the San Bernardino Campus or Palm Desert Campus and may include in-person, hybrid, or online instruction depending on departmental needs.

Part-time lecturer appointments are temporary and are made according to departmental instructional needs, enrollment, available funding, and the qualifications and expertise of applicants. Applications may be reviewed throughout the year as instructional needs arise. Inclusion in the applicant pool does not guarantee an appointment

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

Part-time lecturers are responsible for teaching assigned courses and fulfilling the instructional responsibilities associated with those courses. Responsibilities typically include:
     ● Preparing and delivering course instruction consistent with approved course objectives and departmental and university                            expectations.
     ● Maintaining an accurate and current course syllabus and clearly communicating course requirements and expectations.
     ● Assessing student learning and providing timely and appropriate feedback.
     ● Maintaining accurate course and student records.
     ● Communicating with students and holding office hours in accordance with university requirements.
     ● Using appropriate university instructional technologies, including the learning management system.
     ● Complying with applicable university, college, and department policies and procedures.

Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in Psychology or a field relevant to the course(s) to be taught, or enrollment in a relevant doctoral          program with advancement to candidacy (ABD), by the time of appointment.
  • Academic preparation, professional expertise, or other qualifications appropriate to the assigned course(s).
  • Evidence of effective college-level teaching or the potential for effective college-level teaching.

Additional qualifications may be required for particular course assignments based on course content, program requirements, or other  applicable requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Depending on the course assignment, preferred qualifications may include:

  • Prior successful teaching experience at the college or university level.
  • A doctoral degree or advanced professional preparation relevant to the course assignment.
  • Professional or applied experience directly related to the subject matter of the course.
  • Evidence of effective, student-centered teaching practices.
  • Experience teaching and supporting students from a broad range of backgrounds and educational experiences.
  • Experience with the instructional modality required for the assignment, including online or hybrid instruction when applicable.
  • Modality-specific instructional training may be required.

Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued. Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at program level is preferred and should be noted in application.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Psychology is one of the largest academic departments at CSUSB, serving more than 1,700 undergraduate majors and over 100 graduate students. The department offers a B.A. in Psychology with concentrations in General Psychology, Biological Psychology, and Industrial-Organizational Psychology. Graduate offerings include M.A. programs in Clinical/Counseling Psychology, Psychological Science, and Industrial-Organizational Psychology.

Part-time lecturers play an important role in the department's teaching mission and may have opportunities to teach a broad range of courses across the psychology curriculum. Teaching opportunities are available primarily at the San Bernardino Campus, with additional opportunities at the Palm Desert Campus, as well as online or hybrid assignments depending on departmental needs.
