Position: Assistant Professor of Earth Science
Effective Date: August 17, 2027 (Fall Semester)
Salary Range: The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary is $6,221 to $13,224/per month (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $7,330 to $8,000/per month. Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Geoscience or related field at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2027.
• Record of research in the broadly defined fields of Earth Materials, Mineralogy, Petrology, Economic Geology or in any other geoscience discipline that substantially employs Earth Materials methods in their research
• Ability to teach undergraduate courses in Earth Materials, Mineralogy, Petrology, as well as other Earth Science courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level
• Demonstrated commitment to be an effective teacher at undergraduate and graduate levels
• Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in or potential to teach a breadth of undergraduate and graduate-level courses to a diverse student body
• Commitment to learning and incorporating pedagogical best practices to create equitable courses that promote student learning
• A record of academic publication and research activity commensurate with experience in the applicant’s field of expertise
• Demonstrated success or history of effort to obtain funding for research
• Commitment to actively support the success of underrepresented groups in STEM fields through teaching and mentoring

Duties:

• Teach introductory and expertise-related subjects at undergraduate and graduate (M.S. degree) levels, as needed by the department, including Mineralogy, Petrology, and/or Earth Materials
• Mentor undergraduate and Masters-level graduate students in research
• Engage and maintain an active research program involving students and leading to peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations
• Actively pursue external support for research and student funding through grants and contracts
• Collaborate with colleagues in curriculum development and program assessment
• Participate in service to the department, college, university, profession, and community

About Our Department:
The Department of Earth Science offers two undergraduate degrees (Geology and Earth Systems), and a Master's degree in Geology. We have approximately 50 undergraduate majors and 35 graduate students. The department emphasizes hands-on practical experience in the field and lab and has excellent instrumentation and equipment to facilitate research and teaching. We are located in a geologically and environmentally diverse area that allows quick access for both research and class field activities.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
