ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,540 per month.

CSU CLASSIFICATION SALARY RANGE: $5,540 – $7,893

POSITION PURPOSE: Under the general direction of the Dean of the College of Business and Public Administration, the Internship, Employer Engagement, & Student Professional Development Coordinator provides complex student services professional work in the development, coordination, implementation, and assessment of the College’s career readiness initiatives, including the internship program, employer engagement efforts, student professional development initiative, outreach, and student recruitment activities.

The incumbent independently advises students in individual and group settings on internship exploration, career readiness, professional communication, employer expectations, workplace preparation, and internship-related academic or administrative processes. The position exercises independent judgement in serving as a primary liaison among students, faculty, academic departments, employers, alumni, community partners, and CSUB Center for Career Education and Community Engagement (CECE) to expand internship opportunities, support student career readiness, and strengthen student professional development outcomes.

The Coordinator works collaboratively with CECE to align College-based internship and professional development efforts with campuswide career education resources, employer engagement strategies, and student success initiatives. The incumbent also provides leadership in the development, coordination, assessment, and continuous improvement of the College student professional development initiative, working with faculty and campus partners to identify career readiness competencies and explore possible micro-credentials, digital badges, certificates, or other forms of recognition for students who demonstrate specific professional skills.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Internship Program Coordination & Student Career Advising

  • Coordinate day-to-day operations of the College internship program, including student intake, internship tracking, employer communication, student follow-up, and referral to appropriate faculty, academic departments, CSUB Career Education and Community Engagement Center (CECE), or other campus offices.
  • Independently advise undergraduate and graduate students individually and in groups regarding internship exploration, internship search strategies, application materials, interviewing, workplace readiness, professional expectations, and internship-related procedures.
  • Support students in identifying and evaluating internship opportunities aligned with their academic programs, career goals, interests, skills, and professional development needs.
  • Guide students in understanding internship expectations, employer requirements, professional conduct, workplace communication, and the role of internships in career development.
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver workshops, classroom presentations, information sessions, and career-readiness programming related to internships, resumes, cover letters, interviewing, networking, LinkedIn, Handshake or similar platforms, and professional communication.
  • Coordinate student participation, communication, documentation, tracking, and reporting related to internships, experiential learning activities, and career readiness initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate student, employer, internship, and program records in accordance with university policy and applicable confidentiality requirements AACSB, NASPAA, NACE and other survey data requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with CECE to align College-based internship and career readiness efforts with campuswide career education resources, employer engagement strategies, and student success initiatives.

Professional Development Initiative Coordination & Employer Engagement

  • Coordinate the College student professional development initiative in collaboration with faculty, academic departments, student services staff, CECE, employers, alumni, and other campus partners.
  • Coordinate the development, implementation, and assessment of student professional development programming
  • designed to build career readiness, workplace preparation, leadership, communication, networking, professionalism, and other career-related competencies.
  • Work with faculty to identify and articulate career readiness competencies that align with College degree programs, employer expectations, discipline-specific professional standards, and student success goals.
  • Collaborate with faculty and campus partners to research, develop, and implement possible micro-credentials, digital badges, certificates of completion, or other forms of recognition for students who demonstrate specific career readiness skills.
  • Coordinate student participation, communication, documentation, tracking, and reporting related to professional development activities, competency-based learning opportunities, micro-credentials, or badging initiatives.
  • Research and evaluate emerging practices in career readiness, competency-based professional development, experiential learning, internships, and micro-credentialing to inform program design and continuous improvement.
  • Develop, cultivate, and maintain relationships with employers, alumni, industry partners, nonprofit organizations, public agencies, and community partners to expand internship, experiential learning, career readiness, and professional development opportunities for business students.
  • Serve as a College point of contact for employers interested in recruiting interns or engaging with students through events, presentations, class visits, career panels, information sessions, mock interviews, site visits, mentorship activities, or other professional development programming.
  • Collaborate with career education staff, advancement and alumni relations, faculty, department chairs, program directors, and College leadership to develop strategies that align employer engagement with student needs, academic programs, and professional development goals.
  • Travel locally throughout Kern County to meet with employers, community partners, alumni, internship sites, and industry representatives to develop and maintain relationships that expand opportunities for students.
  • Represent the College at employer meetings, community events, industry gatherings, recruitment activities, advisory board meetings, and other off-campus events that support student internship and professional development outcomes.
  • Track employer engagement activities and provide reports on internship opportunities, student participation, employer contacts, event outcomes, and related metrics.
  • Exercise initiative and independent judgment in identifying new employers and community partners, following up on leads, maintaining ongoing communication, and connecting opportunities to students, faculty, and campus partners.

Outreach, Recruitment, & Student Engagement

  • Plan, implement, and assess outreach strategies to increase student awareness of internship opportunities, career education resources, employer events, the student professional development initiative, College programs, and professional development resources.
  • Represent the College at orientations, recruitment events, resource fairs, student success events, employer events, professional development programs, and other campus or community activities.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, student organizations, advising units, CECE, and other campus partners to integrate internship and career-readiness messaging into academic and co-curricular experiences.
  • Support occasional evening and weekend programming, including employer events, student workshops, recruitment events, professional development activities, community engagement events, and College or university initiatives.

Marketing, Communications, & Reporting

  • Create, update, and coordinate digital, print, web, and social media materials/content and targeted communication campaigns that promote the internship program, student professional development initiative, employer events, microcredential or badging opportunities, student success resources, recruitment activities, and College career-readiness initiatives.
  • Maintain or support updates to internship, career readiness, and professional development web pages, ensuring information is accurate, accessible, student-centered, and aligned with College and university standards.
  • Use campus-supported tools and platforms, which may include Canva, website content management systems, Microsoft Office, Adobe tools, Handshake or other career services platforms, email marketing tools, social media management tools, and student engagement systems to support program operations and communications.
  • Monitor communication effectiveness, including social media engagement, student participation, event registration, email response, and outreach outcomes, and use data to recommend improvements to future campaigns.
  • Ensure communications are clear, inclusive, professional, accessible, and consistent with university branding and communication guidelines.
  • Prepare reports, summaries, presentations, and recommendations for College leadership, faculty, CECE, and other campus partners and approved external organizations to support program planning, assessment, accreditation, rankings, and decision-making.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE – Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related and equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

LICENSES – Possession of a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

  • Experience coordinating internship, experiential learning, career readiness, employer relations, recruiting, student success, outreach, or professional development programs in a higher education setting.
  • Experience developing and maintaining employer, alumni, industry, or community partnerships.
  • Experience working with faculty or academic departments to align student programming with academic programs, learning outcomes, career readiness competencies, or employer expectations.
  • Knowledge of labor market trends, internship best practices, career readiness competencies, and employer recruiting practices.
  • Bilingual or multilingual communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment possessing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: LIGHT WORK – involves mainly sitting, up to 25% standing or walking; lifting medium weight objects limited to 25 pounds.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

SCREENING: Only those applicants possessing experience most directly related to the immediate needs of the office will be invited to appear before a Qualifications Appraisal Board for the purpose of appraising training, experience, and interest in the position.

BACKGROUND CHECK: Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.
