Working Title:  Senior Financial Analyst

Classification Title: Administrative Analyst/Specialist, Exempt II

Classification Salary Range: $5,797 - $8,445 per month 

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $6,151 - $7,066 per month.

The final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

About the Department/Position:

Facilities Planning, Design and Construction (FPDC) coordinates campus facility planning through the development and management of the Space and Facilities Database (SFDB). This database, updated annually, is a key component in determining the need for capital improvement projects as well as equitable space distribution campus-wide. The decisions that formed the Campus Physical Master Plan and the various capital improvement projects are based, in part, on information obtained from the SFDB.

Under the general direction, of the Associate Vice President, Facilities Planning, Design and Construction (AVP, FPDC), the Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for providing accounting support for all Fiscal functions for Facilities Planning, Design, and Construction areas.  This incumbent will oversee budget development for the department, which has projects that fall under minor and major capital projects coming from a variety of fund sources. The Senior Financial Analyst works in collaboration and conjunction with the AVP, FPDC and AVP, Facilities Services (AVP, FS), and the corresponding departments for financial/budgetary reporting when necessary. 

 Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the high-level monthly, quarterly, and yearly accounting and budgetary processes for FPDC.
  • Advise on fiscal management, oversight, and reporting for the entire fiscal year.
  • Responsible for various analytical accounting activities related to the department.
  • Analyze various types of reports and recommend the proper course of action required.
  • Provide audit reports and process funding reporting to the Chancellor's office.
  • Oversee departmental audits on FPDC projects, and provide a review of financial processes.
  • Creation and maintenance of the construction work-in-progress (CWIP) accounting financial statement report and all audit schedules required by the University Controller's Office for the annual compliance audit.
  • Process the required journal entry (JE) of all funds from originating accounts to FPDC. 
  • Develop and track all FPDC capital and expense transactions. Ensure proper and timely reporting of capitalization and closure of projects (accounts).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and/or equivalent training with at least four (4) years of administrative work experience involving Financial analysis and evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

  • Driver's License Required.

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and practices, fund accounting, and a working knowledge of the University accounting and software systems.
     
  • Timely reporting of capitalization and closure of projects (accounts).
     
  • Demonstrated expertise in and advanced knowledge of the principles, problems, and methods of public and business administration and operational and fiscal management.
     
  • Expertise in administrative survey techniques, operations and systems analysis, statistical and research methods, and the ability to interpret and evaluate results to develop sound conclusions and recommend new or revised policies.
     
  • Ability to understand problems from a broad, interactive perspective and discern applicable underlying principles to conceive of and develop strategic solutions.
     
  • Ability to work with representatives from public and private entities and handle potentially sensitive situations. Demonstrated consultative skills in working with internal and external constituent groups.
     
  • Ability to effectively present ideas and concepts in written or presentation format and use consultative and
    facilitation skills to gain consensus.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Accounting degree, PeopleSoft experience
