Cal State Fullerton currently provides residence hall and apartment style living for approximately 2,200 students that is safe, clean, and very convenient. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Lead Locksmith. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Under the supervision of the Director of Residential Facilities Operations, the Lead Locksmith performs a full range of duties, including the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodeling, and repair of manual and automated locks, door openers, and door hardware. The Lead Locksmith cuts and issues keys and maintains accurate master key logs. Ensures equipment functions properly and maintains a safe and clean working environment. The position requires thorough and accurate accounting of time, materials, and timely completion of routine assignments. Follows up on all projects and tasks to ensure completion to the satisfaction of the supervisor or manager, maintains a responsible attendance record, punctuality, and consistently meets deadlines. Work is performed in a manner that supports and facilitates the efforts of Housing Facilities Services and the broader university community, while fostering positive and cooperative working relationships with department staff and campus partners.
This is a key position supporting campus safety and security in alignment with the university’s mission, vision, and values in higher education. The Lead Locksmith serves as the campus expert on electronic locking systems and regularly interacts with the campus community. The role requires strong teamwork, initiative, and ownership of responsibilities while maintaining flexibility to meet operational needs. The Lead Locksmith takes pride in their work and contributes to creating and maintaining a safe, secure, and excellent learning environment at Cal State Fullerton. Essential Qualifications
|
In addition to the knowledge required of the Locksmith, the Lead Locksmith must possess a comprehensive knowledge of master key systems and a working knowledge of effective supervisory practices and techniques. In addition to the abilities required of the Locksmith, the Lead Locksmith must be able to develop and implement a master key system; lead, instruct and coordinate the work of a small group or crew of skilled and semi-skilled assistants; determine staffing, material and equipment needs; estimate costs for new locking systems or for replacement systems; analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations; and maintain more complex manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. In addition to the experience required of the Locksmith, the abilities of a Lead Locksmith normally would be acquired through two or more years of experience as a journey-level locksmith that included lead work coordination responsibilities and training in master key systems.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
