Job Summary

Under the limited supervision of the Contract Manager, and in accordance with all applicable state laws and Trustees and University policies, this position independently performs a wide variety of highly complex campus-wide contract, contract management, and compliance activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead staff and provides day to day oversight of various campus contracts
  • Works independently under limited supervision in accordance with applicable state law, CSU and University Policy
  • Evaluate contracts and liabilities arising from contractual relationships using thorough knowledge of business-to-business contractual relationships and law
  • Independently review, revise, and negotiate wide variety of contracts, leases, purchase agreements, service agreements, general terms and conditions, amendments and addenda to contracts.
  • Correspond with internal and external stakeholder to understand complex terms and conditions, negotiate directly with affiliates, vendors, and other service providers

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate is highly adaptable and knowledgeable in, or able to quickly learn, a wide range of state, CSU, and University policies and practices. They excel at building strong relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders and demonstrate sound judgment in applying legal principles to specific scenarios. With strong analytical skills, they can review complex contracts, identify potential issues, and prepare accurate, legally sound documents. They are detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing a high volume of contracts while meeting multiple deadlines. Proficiency in automated purchasing environments and tools such as MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and other software is essential. The candidate brings experience in drafting and reviewing complex documents, developing reports to track negotiations, and maintaining thorough physical and electronic records for compliance and auditing. They possess excellent business math skills, strong written and oral communication abilities, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving. Above all, they work independently and as part of a team, proactively preventing issues and ensuring efficiency and accuracy in all contracting processes.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

• Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and five years of related experience required.

• Juris Doctor or Paralegal Certificate (or active progress towards completion of either) highly desired.

Physical Summary

  • Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $6,382 (Step 1) - $7,046 (Step 6) per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $6,382 (Step 1) - $9,297 (Step 20) per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment  

This is a regular position.
