RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

 Provides leadership and direction within Auxiliary Financial Services:

  • Ensures the Auxiliary Organizations’ financial documents are complete, accurate, and in conformance with established policies and procedures and generally accepted accounting standards. Reviews monthly, quarterly and annual reports and financial data; reviews and approves journal entries; and maintains files and records for financial statements, resolves problems associated to entries, or deviations from established procedures, and other inconsistencies with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Manages the daily activities of general accounting (cash, investments, billing, receivables, accounts payable, tax, and capitalization of assets).  Reviews GAAP financial statements and reporting packages under the provisions of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). Coordinates completion of documents related to the Auxiliary Organization CPS (Client Prepared Schedules) requests prior to each auxiliary audit (internal and external). Assists with the timely and accurate submission of data reports to state and federal governments, accreditation organizations and committees. When appropriate, recommends documents and implements changes in accordance with new accountings standards, CSU guidelines, and state guidelines. Responds to requests from senior management, the Chancellor's Office, the State Controller's Office, and auditors. Prepares variance analysis reporting and processes CSU derivations for reporting purposes.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors fiscal management of the Auxiliary Organizations, including financial planning, expenditure reconciliation, analyze and identify solutions and makes recommendations to management.
  • Consults with senior management in assessing and developing recommendations for the impact of substantive changes in polices, programs, and personnel for all the Auxiliary Organizations.
  • Serves as a backup to the AVP Financial Services/ Controller staff liaison to Boards and various committees.
  • Reviews programs and expenditures, evaluating and adjusting procedures in order to achieve the goals and objectives of the Auxiliary Organizations. Engages in fiscal planning with management. Liaison representative for the Auxiliary Organizations regarding fiscal duties, planning, policies, procedures, and various other duties.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations with regards to various contracts between the Auxiliary Organizations and the University.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.

Experience: Hands-on experience in financial statement preparation..

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Strong demonstrated knowledge of general accounting functions to include applicable rules, regulations, internal controls and generally accepted accounting principles required. Good interpersonal skills are necessary to communicate effectively with campus personnel, the State Controller's Office, other CSU entities, and governmental and non-profit agencies.  Must be comfortable in a changing environment, possess excellent organizational skills and be able to prioritize multiple responsibilities and deadlines with minimal supervision. Must be a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to recommend action and implement new or revised process flows while applying standard accounting principles (GAAP). Working knowledge of GAAP, and familiarity with GASB and FASB standards for financial reporting. Thorough knowledge of financial management techniques, and mythologies.  Ability to work closely and professionally with others as part of a team.  Ability to interpret technical procedures and regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Strong written and verbal communication skills.  Ability to lead and motivate others. Ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a diverse multicultural environment. Working knowledge of financial risk factors.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

CPA or Master’s Degree Preferred.

Five years of professional level accounting experience in a high-volume automated accounting department, higher education experience, or not for profit experience preferred. Experience using People Soft Excel and Word preferred.

Hiring Range: $7,500 - $8,850 per month
