Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Academic Employee and Labor Relations, this position is responsible for the comprehensive administration of Leave of Absence (LOA) and ADA programs for Faculty (Unit 3), Academic Student Employees (Unit 11), and Academic Administrators. The role includes coordinating and processing personal and professional leaves for Unit 3 faculty in alignment with the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), ensuring compliance and consistency in leave administration.

As the designated ADA Accommodations lead and subject matter expert, this position conducts the interactive process and collaborates closely with Department Chairs and Academic Affairs Administrators to implement reasonable accommodations in accordance with ADA guidelines. The incumbent serves as the primary point of contact for all inquiries related to LOAs, ADA accommodations, CSU Family Medical Leave (CSUFML) policy, and CBA provisions concerning leaves.

In addition to managing leave and accommodation programs, the position provides critical support to the Director of Academic Employee and Labor Relations on a range of employee relations matters. These include assisting with grievances, workplace investigations, and the drafting of progressive discipline letters, contributing to the overall effectiveness and compliance of academic personnel practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees and processes paid and unpaid Leave of Absence Programs in accordance with CBA, CSU FML policies and other related polices covering LOA programs.
  • Serves as the ADA Accommodations lead point of contact and expert, conducts interactive process meetings and works with faculty/unit 3, unit 11 employees and Deans and Associate Deans, Department Chairs to find reasonable accommodations.
  • Provides support to the Associate Vice President of Faculty Affairs, Director of Academic Employee Relations on Employee Relations matters that involve LOA or accommodations. Conducts investigations on matters involving LOA and accommodations, provides reports to the Director of Academic Employee and Labor Relations.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a thorough understanding of general human resources practices, along with familiarity with campus-specific procedures and policies. They should have in-depth knowledge of FMLA, CFRA, and other leave-related laws, as well as a general understanding of ADA workplace accommodations. Proficiency in interpreting and applying collective bargaining agreements is essential, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and regulations. Experience with HR enterprise systems such as PeopleSoft is required. The candidate must possess excellent project management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to requests for guidance in a timely and effective manner. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks are critical. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills—both verbal and written—are necessary, including the ability to produce clear and accurate training materials, employee communications, and process documentation. The candidate must also adhere to all University policies, procedures, and guidelines, including those related to safety, civility, and information management.

Education and Experience

• Equivalent to a bachelor's degree and five years of progressively responsible HR experience.

• Leave of absence, ADA experience, and employee relations experience required.

  • Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation

Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $6,907 - $7,500 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU MPP Compensation Summary Range:  The MPP Comp Summary Range for this position is $6,907 - $10,361 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
