Position Description

The Department of Athletics at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Coach (12-month) with the appointment starting on August 18, 2025

The Position

The head coach is responsible for supporting the Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics in all operations of the Women’s Softball program in accordance with NCAA, California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and University rules, regulations, and policies. Duties include but are not limited to the following: recruiting, scheduling, planning, organizing, revenue generation and/or fundraising, monitoring academic performance and promoting intercollegiate athletics and other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director. The ideal candidate can illustrate coaching success at the collegiate level in the sport of Women’s Softball; excellent communication, organizational and leadership skills; strong commitment to the academic achievement of student-athletes. This ideal candidate also has the ability to act as a mentor; demonstrate sensitivity to and contribute to equality and diversity issues.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 or more years of successful collegiate coaching experience in the sport of Women’s Softball.
  • Commitment to and/or experience working with students from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural and academic backgrounds.
  • Strong and stable work ethic;
  • commitment to excellence in academics and athletics;
  • A commitment to and understanding of recruiting, retaining and graduating student-athletes, and the ability to collaboratively work with department and campus partners;
  • Evidence of high ethical standards as well as personal and professional integrity;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with both internal and external constituencies;
  • Experience in fiscal management, and ability and willingness to be involved in revenue generation and/or fundraising;
  • Ability to lead, motivate, organize, and make sound decisions;
  • An understanding of the dynamics of diversity in higher education and the ability to incorporate this understanding, as appropriate, in all levels of the work;
  • Ability to clearly articulate a coherent plan and vision to build and enhance the Cal State Dominguez Hill’s Women’s Softball program and
  • A valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Preferred /Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and a minimum of 4 or more years of successful head collegiate coaching experience in the sport of Women’s Softball;
  • Previous experience with Division II athletic program;
  • Demonstrated success and experience in revenue generation and/or fundraising;
  • Affiliation and activity with professional organizations appropriate to the position;
  • Recruiting experience on the West Coast, preferably California;

Athletics

The Athletic Department administers an intercollegiate athletic program sponsoring four (4) Men’s teams and six (6) Women’s teams. A member of Division II of the NCAA, CSUDH competes in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Other Functions of the unit include public relations, sports information, athletic training, fund-raising, scheduling of campus athletics facilities and recruitment and retention of student- athletes. The Department and University place a high priority on academic standards and the personal growth of student-athletes.

Additional Information

The full-time Coach (12-Month) classification salary range is $7,830.00 to $12,771.00 per month (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring salary is $7,830.00 - $10,849.00 per month. The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and current CSUDH faculty salaries in the academic department/discipline. Faculty salaries are subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases.

Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.
