Job Summary

Under the guidance of the Director of Academic Technology Services and the Innovation Space Architect, the Junior Innovation Space Technician has experience in 3D printing and provides consultations to faculty and students on projects that involve various technologies within the ISPACE. They are accountable for maintaining and ensuring the optimal condition of all equipment used within the ISPACE.

Key Responsibilities

  • Consult with Faculty and Students - Consult with faculty and students to recommend ISPACE services and technologies that align with project deliverables. These consultations include the use of additive and subtractive manufacturing equipment such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and waterjet, immersive technologies including AR/VR/XR, motion capture, and 360 video, and streaming content creation within audio and video podcast studios.
  • Oversee Operation and Maintenance of Equipment - Develop and implement a comprehensive equipment maintenance schedule for major/annual overhauls. Execute routine maintenance tasks and conduct equipment repairs as needed. Perform thorough cleaning, adjustment, lubrication, and replacement of worn or defective parts.
  • Supervise Student Assistants - Assist in training and supervising student workers. Maintain and enforce policies and procedures for student employees. Schedule and recruit Student Assistants.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Strong communication skills along with a solid foundation in additive manufacturing and laboratory safety practices. Experience includes managing technology-based projects with a focus on efficiency and innovation. Proficient in a range of 3D modeling software such as SOLIDWORKS, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Fusion 360, and Rhino, which are used to evaluate and support student print requests. Experience with user-oriented documentation, including web-based resources, to enhance accessibility and usability of technical information.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

• Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Educational Technology, Communications, or related technical field required.

Preferred:

• Associate degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Game Art Design or Computer Science (preferred) or related fields.

• Hands-on experience 3D printers.

• Demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of 3D printing and scanning.

• Experience with 3D slicing software

• Experience in 3D CAD modeling design software

• Experience with virtual reality (VR) devices

Physical Summary

  • Light work - Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10-20 pounds) and/or 10% - 20% of the job involves standing or walking.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $4,094 - $5,041 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,094 - $7,881 per month.

Time Base

Time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment
