Job Summary:

Under general supervision, the incumbent will be responsible for the day to day operations for equipment operations across all sports in CSUSB Athletics, including but not limited to procurement, repair, safety and branding initiatives. This position will ensure compliance with University policy, state and federal regulations, as well as NCAA, CCAA rules and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receives, checks, and stores athletic equipment and clothes, including uniforms and supplies, for varsity sports.
  • Maintains inventory records.
  • Prepares and issues uniforms, equipment, and supplies for intercollegiate games both at the campus and at other campuses and maintains records of issue and receipt.
  • Takes periodic inventory and maintains stock control of all athletic equipment and clothes.
  • Administers contracts with equipment and uniform vendors and other sports specific vendors for all sports across Athletics to ensure the inventory safely operates and all branding initiatives are executed appropriately with respect to CSUSB, CCAA and NCAA regulations.
  • Informs supervisor when stock control of equipment and clothes is low and orders or assists in ordering additional stock. Liaison to apparel and equipment vendors.
  • Ensures that all uniforms and related apparel and equipment are maintained in a clean and serviceable condition.
  • Inspects clothing and equipment for repair and performs maintenance and minor repairs, mending tears in jerseys, waxing shoes. Collects, sorts, and prepares clothes for laundering and uniforms for cleaning.
  • Assists in game preparation as needed, including set up and tear down of equipment, and stock control of equipment and uniforms at athletic games.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • May provide lead work direction to other staff.
  • Other classification-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to a high school diploma/GED
  • One year of experience which would provide adequate training for supervising the equipment and supply services in a college athletic program.

Required Qualifications

  • General knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in competitive sports and in physical education classes; working knowledge of proper methods of storing equipment; working knowledge of preservatives and cleaning materials and techniques used in maintaining athletic equipment.
  • Ability to compare names and numbers rapidly and accurately; ability to take inventory and maintain various types of records; ability to maintain and perform minor repairs of athletic equipment and clothes; ability to supervise and work with assistants; ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain an American Red Cross First Aid Certificate within first 6 months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Any combination equivalent to high school graduation AND experience in the storage and maintenance of athletic equipment and supplies.
  • Knowledge of materials and equipment used in team and individual sports and of the care and maintenance of athletic equipment; ability to make repairs of athletic equipment and clothing; ability to keep records; ability to carry out oral and written instructions; ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment.

Compensation and Benefits:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $3,680 - $4,833 per month

Classification Salary Range: $3,680 - $5,710 per month

The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

Position Information:

Work status: Full-time/Non- Exempt/Probationary  

Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.

Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.

Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.  CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.  Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Drivers License Check

Possession of a valid Driver's License is required.  Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

Physical Exam

Employment is contingent upon candidate passing a pre-employment physical exam with the ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.

Campus Security Authority

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Cleary Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is required.
