(Job #548106) Administrator III, Senior Executive Director for Enterprise Services, Salary Range: $6,891 - $22,119 monthly. This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, 12-month pay position in the Enterprise Services Department.  This position is an Administrator III in the California State University Management Personnel Plan (MPP). Under this plan, incumbents are subject to normal management reviews and serve at the pleasure of the University President. Position Summary:

The Enterprise Services leadership position provides high level financial oversight, revenue-generation, and building project planning and management within the self-support areas of Housing, Dining, Campus Stores, Children’s Center, Student Activities Center, Gutswurrak Student Activities Center, Campus & Events Services, Cal Poly Humboldt Presents, and others as assigned. Provides strategic planning to include facility needs/renovations, reserve sufficiency, and revenue growth beyond the break-even point. Responsible for major vendor contracts within these areas (ex: CBORD), as well as vendor service delivery (ex: Chartwells) including indirect supervision of vendor-designated employee liaisons (ex: Follett). The emphasis is on Housing in order to implement new building projects designed to accommodate enrollment growth targets, as well as Housing-related contracts and ancillary services that will need to expand to accommodate an increasing resident student population.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Supervision – 30%

Work collaboratively with leadership in self-support areas to provide high-level financial oversight, revenue-generation, and project planning/management of buildings:

  • Housing & Residence Life
  • Supervising IT support for Dining and Bookstores & the interface with Housing
  • Dining including all Chartwells financial incentive tracking, billing and reporting
  • Campus Stores, including all Follett commissions, scholarship and textbook Access programs
  • Children’s Center, including 4 grants and campus funding sources
  • Student Activities Center, including Conferences & Event Services and Cal Poly Humboldt Presents

Strategic Planning – 20%

  • Budgetary and projection planning support for reframed UC board retirement fund.
  • Strategic planning to include facility needs/renovations, reserve sufficiency, and revenue growth beyond the break-even point           

Major Contracts and High-Level Programs – 20%

Work collaboratively with leadership in self-support areas to manage and enhance existing and new major contracts and high-level programs, such as:

  • New Housing building(s) project planning including financials and logistics planning
  • 1st & 2nd year Housing live-on requirements rollout with campus partners
  • CBORD campus software for Housing, Dining, Laundry, Bookstores along with mobile app
  • Housing laundry payment systems and equipment for existing and new Housing projects, including mobile app
  • Housing package locker systems for existing and planned locations
  • Dining contract with Chartwells and the campus dining and catering program, including mandatory meal plans
  • Bookstore contract with Follett along with Campus Store operations and marketing
  • Oversight of the Children’s Center
  • New initiatives for cross-campus collaborations such as a Pouring Rights potential agreement and others as tasked
  • Expanding visibility and connections between campus and area business communities

Administrative & Program Support – 15%

  • Provide leadership to create customer friendly service-oriented operations that support the health and wellbeing of students
  • Support campus efforts to increase new real estate development opportunities and expand the Enterprise Services area to bring additional revenue with differentiated revenue streams into the University
  • Encourage expansion and growth with new avenues for strategic promotion across campus

Financial and Budget Support – 10%

  • Mentor, train and work collaboratively with personnel within self-support areas on budget development, multi-year projections, and reporting (i.e., Housing Asst. Director)

Other Duties as Assigned – 5%

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Associated with this Position Include:

  • Extensive knowledge of accounting, familiarity (or willingness to learn) Cal Poly’s OBI Information System, HR and recruitment systems like Peoplesoft and Page Up, budgeting systems like Questica.
  • Understanding of enterprise services operations (housing, dining, retail, early childhood education, events, etc.).
  • Knowledge of public finance principles and auxiliary/self-support fund structures.
  • Knowledge of commercial real estate and capital project planning in higher education environments.
  • Understanding of contract negotiation, vendor performance metrics, and contract law as it pertains to large-scale public-private partnerships (e.g., Follett, Chartwells, CBORD).
  • Ability to develop and implement long-term strategic plans that align with university goals, including capacity growth, infrastructure renewal, and enrollment support.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply expertise in delivering customer service-oriented businesses.
  • Ability to independently analyze, interpret, integrate, compile, apply and present highly complex data and information to inform the management of, and future planning for, a complex and full services Commercial Enterprise Services portfolio that includes experience with areas such as Dining, Bookstores, Children’s Center, Student Activities Center, Performing Arts and Conference & Event Services.
  • Strong executive leadership skills with the ability to supervise senior-level staff (e.g., Executive Directors, Directors, IT staff) and indirectly manage contracted vendors.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and foster collaboration among diverse units.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills, especially when managing high-value contracts and sensitive cross-campus initiatives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for executive presentations, board reports, and campus communications.
  • Ability to serve as a visible advocate and relationship-builder between campus departments, external vendors, and the regional business community.
  • Ability to formulate, implement, and revise operational policies consistent with CSU policies, federal/state regulations, and institutional priorities.
  • Ability to effectively represent the university in negotiations, at systemwide meetings, and in community outreach efforts.
  • Ability to build consensus across diverse stakeholder groups, including students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • Ability to identify and pursue new revenue streams, partnerships, and growth opportunities that align with the institution’s mission and sustainability goals.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse population.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Business or related field.
  2. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the role of COO/CFO.
  3. Minimum of two (2) years of experience coordinating and directing commercial operations functions at a college or university.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. MBA or master’s degree in business or related field.
  2. Three – four years of experience managing large organizational budgets and developing new business ventures.
