PURPOSE:
Under the general supervision of the Dean of the College of Science and lead direction from the Chair of the School of Computing and Design (SCD) and in collaboration with other faculty and staff, the Student Services Coordinator develops and oversees a broad range of programs and processes that support the academic and professional success of students at SCD. This includes major specific service-learning partnership and placement, internship placement and tracking, career development, and other aspects of student success services as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develops service learning and internship partnerships and serves as liaison with non-profit organizations, governmental agencies, and industry partners to provide site placements for undergraduate students who pursue a major at SCD. Creatively resolves challenges and ensures compliance with all policies and procedures of both CSUMB and partner organizations. Adheres to established protocols and makes recommendations as needed.
- Assists students with volunteer opportunities and career development. Provides students with customized career advising that aligns students’ career goals with the knowledge and skills acquired in the major. Supports students in pursuing their educational and career goals by providing information about occupational and educational requirements and how they relate to student interests and abilities. Directs students to appropriate career resources and services.
- In an ongoing effort to improve communication, coordination, and seamless student support services, serves as liaison with various offices at CSUMB, including but not limited to Service Learning Institute, Registrar, Advising, Career and Student Success, Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center, University Communications, and Web Services.
- Maintains complete and organized records of all partnerships and student placements. Prepares information packets for students or partners as needed.
- Analyzes and helps prepare reports related to student retention, success, participation in high-impact practices, and job/internship placement of students and alumni. Helps identify gaps and barriers, and helps programs to bridge those barriers.
- Actively participate in all program level efforts such as preparing documents required for annual assessment, program review, industry advisory board meetings for performance improvement, and partner organizations.
Other Functions:
Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of: the principles of individual and group behavior; procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.
Ability to: interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office. Possession of these knowledge and abilities typically is demonstrated through the experience requirements below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑ related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree in a technology-related field.
- Skill in Excel (including pivot tables/charts, linking worksheets, and creating formulas), data analysis including statistical analyses.
- Ability to develop and maintain databases, and to integrate data from a variety of sources including CMS, application/admissions systems, and Insight.
- Ability to prepare newsletters, marketing materials, and reports that include interpretation of data and statistics
- Experience with communications and social media.
- Technical fluency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite; Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar, Forms, etc.); Oracle-PeopleSoft/Common Management System or equivalent student, HR and Student information systems; reporting tools; 25Live, intranet drives; and internet browsers.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. The position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time. May require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.
