PURPOSE:

Under the direct supervision of the Registrar, and lead work direction of the Lead Degree Audit Systems Analyst, the Student Success Analyst serves as Application Administrator for CSU Monterey Bay’s E-advising systems. The incumbent is the prime contact and resource for faculty and staff to resolve complex problems or issues that may arise as part of the advising process.  Work involves developing and leading related training programs and troubleshooting information for the campus community.  Additionally, the incumbent provides critical support for programs and initiatives designed to strengthen the academic success and graduation rates for all students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

E-Advising Program Leadership

  • Provide program leadership for e-advising tools. Collaborate with university departments to identify specific student populations and coordinate University-wide e-advising campaigns in collaboration with campus stakeholders.  Serve as a resource to departments for academic requirements and policies as they pertain to e-advising systems.  Assist with the evaluation and assessment of new student success project initiatives and make appropriate recommendations regarding academic planning. Provide resources to support advisor engagement with students using e-advising systems.

Testing and Reporting

  • Conduct testing and validation of the e-advising system to ensure accuracy of the data. Produce operational queries, reports, and documentation.  Serve as trouble-shooting expert for e-advising systems

Training & Access

  • Create, oversee, and run on-campus trainings for faculty, staff and students. Conduct presentations and workshops to faculty, academic advisors, and other student services personnel within the University community. Oversee user roles within e-advising systems and provide appropriate access to users.

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the degree audit systems team to perform annual and as requested degree audit, degree planner, and transfer credit maintenance. Support the development and deployment of intervention strategies aimed at student success and retention. Research, develop, and evaluate new advising interventions. Serve as a liaison between e-advising end users and CMS/IT departments.

Other Functions:

Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply extensive expertise to complex programs and/or administrative specialties, including pertinent laws and regulations. Demonstrated expertise in and advanced knowledge of the principles, problems, and methods of public and business administration and operational and fiscal management. Expertise in administrative survey techniques, operations and systems analysis, statistical and research methods, and the ability to interpret and evaluate results to develop sound conclusions and recommend new or revised policies.

Ability to:  take initiative and work independently to determine effective approaches to projects and priorities; organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved; apply extensive expertise to complex programs and/or administrative specialties, including pertinent laws and regulations; understand problems from a broad, interactive perspective and discern applicable underlying principles to conceive of and develop strategic solutions; work with representatives from public and private entities and handle potentially sensitive situations; effectively present ideas and concepts in written or presentation format and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus; apply extensive expertise to the complexity of maintaining effective university-community partnerships in both face-to-face and online contexts; work with representatives from public and private entities and handle potentially sensitive situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Technical fluency with Banner, Oracle/PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System or equivalent student information system; Microsoft Office Professional Suite, and Google mail and calendaring programs. Demonstrated academic advising experience in a higher education setting preferred. Experience with EAB Navigate360 platform. Experience providing training and support for online platforms to users at all levels. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and competing demands to meet changing priorities.

  • May require occasional evenings and/or weekend work.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. The position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time.  May require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.
