The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department in the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is seeking to hire full-time lecturers for two-year contracts, with appointments beginning September 11, 2025 and ending approximately May 21, 2027. The bulk of teaching assignments will be in introductory chemistry or organic chemistry for majors and non-majors, with the potential for other assignments. Qualified candidates from all disciplines of chemistry are invited to apply. Finalists may be asked to submit a video lesson of their teaching. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated hiring range for this role is $78,432 - $89,772 annually. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a closely related discipline, or a Ph.D. in Chemical Education with a M.S. in Chemistry is required.
  • All requirements for the Ph.D. must be completed before September 11, 2025.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of (or potential for) excellence in teaching.
  • Teaching effectiveness, understanding of the teaching and learning process, and currency in the subject matter of teaching assignments are all important aspects of the lecturer position. 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department offers programs of study leading to Bachelor's Degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry. The department also serves many technical programs in the University.
