Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,400 - $5,950 per month

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,158 - $12,730 per month

  • This is a full-time, probationary, exempt position.

 Area of consideration is limited to on-campus, state funded employees only.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Working independently under the supervision of the Director of the Office of Innovation and Digital Excellence for Academic Success (IDEAS) or designee, the Academic Technology Specialist supports faculty, academic support units, staff, students, and other campus clients by providing consultation and support to enhance the use and access of technology. This position will serve as the Academic Technology Resource Center (ATRC) specialist, overseeing a number of student assistants working in ATRC, DISCOVERe, and IDEAS. Responsibilities include but are not limited to monitoring ongoing divisional communication, meetings and events. The incumbent will interface and effectively communicate with a diverse group of people; provide advisory service; serve as custodian of all resource information/files for unit activities; and maintain an open and effective work environment and rapport as a key information resource. This position may be assigned a variety of other tasks including requirement's analysis, documentation and quality assurance testing.

 

Key Qualifications

  • Knowledge of:
    • Thorough knowledge of office systems, and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems and software packages.
    • Knowledge of related instructional systems, current mobile apps, software, and digital tools that enhance the student learning experience.
    • Knowledge of training theory and practices demonstrated by an ability to develop and deliver technical training and user documentation
    • Working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources and training methods
    • Basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems.
    • Knowledge of higher education university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
    • Knowledge of system utilities, features, installation and maintenance procedures, and general operation.
    • Data and file structures, database systems and related utilities, operating systems, and communication interface programs.
  • Skills/Abilities to:
    • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to develop and deliver technical training, user documentation and working with users to interpret needs and provide appropriate solutions.
    • Organizational and time-management skills with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks and projects under competing deadlines and maintain flexibility in response to constantly shifting priorities.
    • Collaborate with others to help advance the goals of the department and university. Show courtesy and respect towards others and promote a positive and service oriented collegial work environment.
    • Serve as a resource to faculty, students and staff in responding to inquiries and providing detailed information
    • Ability to provide functional input and analysis into discussions regarding short- and long-term technology implementations, upgrades and maintenance to enhance processes to meet programmatic goals.
    • Ability to successfully work in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.
    • Excellent writing and communications skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences, including the translation between the two.
    • Attention to detail and consistently accurate and thorough.
    • Apply independently a wide variety of complex policies and procedures, including ability to approach common and unique problems using reasoning and judgment in developing practical, thorough and creative solutions.
    • Demonstrated competence in understanding, interpreting, and communicating procedures, policies, information, ideas and instructions.
    • Excellent computer skills, especially with Excel and PeopleSoft, and knowledge of operating systems: Apple Macintosh OS, Microsoft Windows.
    • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures independently and use judgment and discretion to act when precedents do not exist.
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, students, faculty, administrators, and the general public.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, business administration, communications, related fields or similar coursework in applicable fields of study.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience coordinating IT projects and/or providing consultative support, recommendations and/or training.
    • Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
      • Demonstrated ability to independently research and organize data; compile and edit complex written documents.
      • ATI (accessible technology initiative) standards for instructional materials.
      • Possess strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
