(Job #544941) Accountant III, Senior Accountant & Financial Analyst, Salary Range: $5,779 - $11,153 monthly. This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, 12-month pay plan permanent position with a one-year probationary period in the Accounting Department. Position Summary:

To perform advanced professional accounting work involving the application of accounting principles and practices to the resolution of a wide variety of complex accounting problems. The Accountant III serves as a high-level individual contributor providing expertise and providing lead work direction to other professional and/or technical staff.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • 25% - Prepare complex journal entries and financial analysis for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close for the campus, auxiliary and ancillary units. Prepare complex financial statements and reports
  • 20% - Work independently with minimal supervision to perform complex activities related to year-end preparation of Legal and GAAP financial reporting and submission.
  • 20% - Work collaboratively with various stakeholders on internal/external audits of the campus, auxiliary and ancillary organizations. Aid in a variety of audit resolutions.
  • 15% - Lead the day-to-day activities and review the work of clerical, technical or professional employees engaged in accounting, financial record-keeping, or financial reporting work, and may provide input to the employee performance evaluation process.
  • 10% - Lead projects and initiatives, often with high visibility and broad impacts, to advance the short- and long-term goals of the department and the university. Research and develop recommendations for business processes, standards, and procedures; assess, formulate, and evaluate impacts of recommended or implemented policies and procedures from a strategic and operational perspective.
  • 5% - Research authoritative literature, formulate conclusions and recommend solutions to implement. Interpret new and existing federal, state and CSU regulations.
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Associated with this Position Include:

  • Extensive knowledge of advanced proficiency with current word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems. General knowledge of governmental accounting and internal control methods and related laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of federal student financial aid annual reporting requirements, and quarterly grant reporting requirements.
  • In addition to those at the Accountant I and II levels, ability to prepare complex financial statements and reports.
  • Ability to understand and interpret laws and rules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others inside and outside the unit, including conveying complex and technical professional accounting information to non-Accountants.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with staff, students, and faculty from diverse backgrounds.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Experience: Equivalent to five (5) years of professional level accounting experience.
  1. Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, business administration, finance or a closely related field OR a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Governmental accounting and auditing experience.
  2. Federal and state grant accounting experience.
  3. MBA or CPA certification.
