Major Duties

Under general supervision, the Custodian performs general cleaning and custodial care for assigned campus housing buildings, residential units, offices, guest housing, and common areas. The position completes apartment turnovers, prepares guest housing accommodations, transports custodial supplies, and supports custodial operations throughout the student housing portfolio.

  • Cleans and maintains assigned areas, which may include all or some of the following, based upon the location of specific assignments: dusting and cleaning all surfaces; removing trash and recyclables; cleaning and disinfecting restrooms and replenishing supplies; cleaning glass doors, windows, and blinds; removing gum and graffiti; cleaning furniture and upholstery; cleaning light fixtures and HVAC air diffusers; polishing woodwork and metal surfaces; cleaning interior and exterior stairwells, walkways, and elevators; clean and maintain campus floors, including sweeping, dry and/or wet mopping; stripping, sealing, waxing, and polishing floors; vacuuming; spot and full cleaning of carpets; responding to custodial/cleaning emergencies; gathering and delivering trash and recyclables to areas of central aggregation; safeguarding assigned areas from unauthorized use and access by locking and unlocking doors and windows; identify and organize necessary work materials and equipment, which may include loading and unloading cleaning supplies and materials; and operating and maintaining powered equipment, tools, supplies, and materials needed to perform assigned duties. These work areas include assignments in all campus housing buildings (student residences, offices, community spaces, and guest housing).
  • Cleans entire apartments and turns over apartments in various areas of campus housing.
  • Ensures clean and safe handling of all custodial supplies, and transports cleaning supplies to various buildings using electric carts and/or custodial supply carts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Supports the cleaning efforts and staff across the student housing portfolio as instructed by operations management.

 LICENSE: CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER’S LICENSE.

 Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Six months of previous custodial experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of proper use of various floor care machines utilized by custodial staff, e.g. stripping machine, waxer/buffer, water pick-ups, etc.
  • Knowledge of custodial cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate powered custodial equipment and cleaning tools.
  • Ability to prioritize work and complete assignments efficiently with attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions while working independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain safe work practices and provide excellent customer service in a residential environment.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver, and more.
  • Classification: 2010 / Custodian / Grade 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE is $3461 – $3747 per month, dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $3461 - $4752 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday. May include evenings and weekends.  
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
