Position: Assistant Professor in Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management

Starting Date: Fall 2027

The College of Business Administration (CoBA) at California State University, San Marcos (CSUSM) seeks one full-time tenure-track faculty member to join its Management department. The anticipated start date for this position is Fall 2027. It's important to note that the position is contingent on state funding.

CSUSM is a rapidly growing university with over 14,000 total students.  It is expected to grow to 25,000 at full capacity. Since CSUSM’s inception, CoBA has served the region with distinction by providing a cadre of skilled, thoughtful, and engaged students and alumni. Thus, from the very beginning, CoBA has consistently engaged with local business leaders and provided innovative programming that has profoundly impacted the region. More than 85% of its alumni stay in the region after they graduate and contribute to the growth of their organizations and the prosperity of their communities. The College has grown tremendously over the past 30 years and in fall 2021 welcomed over 2,500 undergraduate and MBA students to Markstein Hall and to the CSUSM at Temecula campus. CoBA is also the birthplace of Senior Experience, a unique signature educational program that pairs teams of senior business administration majors with local organizations in a project-based consulting experience.

San Marcos is located in North San Diego County, approximately 35 miles from both downtown San Diego and Orange County, offering a year-round pleasant climate and a full-range of recreational, cultural and entertainment opportunities.

Minimum qualifications:

· The minimum education requirement for this position is a Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship, Strategic Management, Management, or a closely related discipline. (ABD status considered, however, conferral of degree is required at the time of hire)

· Successful candidates will have demonstrated teaching excellence, a publication record appropriate to their experience level, and the potential to establish a research program that produces original, peer-reviewed work.

· Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with departmental colleagues and contribute to our campus community are essential.

Desired/preferred qualifications:

· Preference will be given to applicants with the ability to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels, along with research experience in Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management.

· Ideal candidates will have expertise in courses such as Creativity and Innovation, New Venture Creation, Startup Acceleration, Innovation Management, Strategic Management, Social Entrepreneurship, and Small Business Management, as well as proficiency in applied learning and current technologies relevant to these fields.

· Ideal candidates will also have expertise publishing in high-quality Entrepreneurship and/or Strategic Management journals

· Additionally, applicants who can demonstrate intercultural competence with a variety of groups in teaching, research, and service are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be well-qualified to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management. Teaching responsibilities may include courses such as Creativity and Innovation, New Venture Creation, Startup Acceleration, Innovation Management, Strategic Management, Social Entrepreneurship, and Small Business Management.

The candidate will contribute to the continued development and growth of the Entrepreneurship program, including enhancing curriculum offerings, supporting co-curricular initiatives (such as incubators, accelerators, pitch competitions, and internships), and helping to build partnerships with local entrepreneurs, alumni, and industry stakeholders. The ability to integrate emerging technologies and tools relevant to entrepreneurship and strategic management, such as data-driven decision-making, digital platforms, and innovation frameworks, is highly desirable.

In research, the candidate is expected to sustain quality scholarship by publishing in peer-reviewed publications in Entrepreneurship and/or Strategic Management. In service, the candidate will actively engage in identifying and pursuing opportunities to support the department, college, university, and professional community.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $12,000 - $12,594 per month

CSU Classification Salary Range: $6,221- $13,224 per month
