Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Deputy Chief of Staff, the Executive Communications Specialist serves as the primary lead in executive communications in alignment with the vision, mission and values of the university. Responsibilities include drafting a wide range of documents of a confidential and complex nature, including correspondence, formal remarks, brief statements and other writing assignments on behalf of the President, the Chief of Staff, the Deputy Chief of Staff, and the Assistant Vice President for Future Planning. As workload permits, incumbent will engage in other tasks and special projects requiring independent research and judgment and the synthesizing of information from various sources to provide summary documents for campus leadership. The incumbent will also assist in coordinating the resolution of a wide range of issues and complaints that come to the Office of the President. Incumbent models integrity, tact, good judgment, discretion and professionalism at all times. Work requires access to confidential information including strategic-decision-making source documents and employee and labor relations matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communications Support: Manage all Presidential and Office of the President social media platforms, and ensure postings are coordinated with appropriate CSULB offices, including the Associate Vice President for Strategic Planning, and the other campus communicators.
  • Issue Resolution / Management of Presidential Email: Manage dissemination of campus wide emails on behalf of the Office of the President, including working with the Division of IT and the Associate Vice President for Strategic Communications to ensure consistent and proper protocols.
  • Website Supervision: Assist with development of award candidacies for systemwide and external awards opportunities.
  • Event Coordination: Assist Office of the President team with regular event logistics, including producing promotional materials, and support for day-of event production.

Demonstrates ability to understand, analyze, and solve or delegate problems appropriately and according to OTP guidelines. Demonstrates ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced highly sensitive work environment. Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively with other members of the OTP team as well as with representatives of other University divisions and programs. Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of communication, public affairs, media and/or marketing theories and concepts to develop and execute communication strategies Exhibits excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively handle a broad range of interpersonal contacts including higher level dignitaries, civic organizations and non-profit agencies. Exhibits thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Demonstrates knowledge of Microsoft Office with thorough knowledge in Word, Excel, Power PowerPoint strongly preferred.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

-Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of related experience required.

Preferred:

• Experience with Drupal or website hosting platforms and other software to support digital and print graphic design such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Maestro strongly preferred.

• Thorough knowledge of and experience with CSULB campus community, auxiliaries and various student activity

programs strongly preferred.

• Social media engagement experience preferred. 

• Valid CA Driver's License preferred.

Physical Summary

Light work - Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10-20 pounds) and/or 10% - 20% of the job involves standing or walking.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $5,357 - $7,917 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,357 - $13,360 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment  

This is a full-time, probationary position.
