Job Summary

Under the supervision of the AVP, Student Success & Engagement and led by the Associate Director of the Women's & Gender Equity Center (WGEC) this position is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, and assessment of educational, social, and cultural programs, student initiatives, resources, engagement efforts, and services designed specifically for students who identify as women, women of color, pregnant or parenting, traditional, nontraditional, re-entry, transfer, and those impacted by gender-based oppression.

This position coordinates the daily operations of the center, administrative functions, student assistants, peer mentors, interns, fellows, and volunteers, as well as builds critical partnerships and collaborates with campus departments and off-campus community partners and ensures all programs meet compliance with regulations and requirements.

Furthermore, this position is responsible for providing services that are equitable, inclusive and provide culturally sensitive services that enhance the quality of campus life, retention, and graduation rate. This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts. ACPA's 2024 Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Development and Student Success - Develop and facilitate year-round programs, workshops and activities for students, faculty, and staff that address the needs of women, women of color, pregnant and parentings students, those impacted by gender-based oppression and the mission of the center. Coordinate signature programs, including but not limited to Women's History Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and National Student Parent Month.
  • Student Success Coaching - Coach and advise students on concerns related to interpersonal issues, academic concerns, career interests and identity development. Refer students to appropriate services for additional guidance, support, or intervention. Build relationships with students to proactively work to improve student experience, engagement with coaching, and success.

They demonstrate sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and are committed to fostering inclusivity through respectful language and behavior. With experience in event planning, customer service, and administrative coordination, they excel in fast-paced settings, managing competing priorities and solving problems efficiently. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe, and social media platforms, they produce high-quality written materials and presentations, and are comfortable with travel, flexible schedules, and physical tasks. Their knowledge of CSU/CSULB policies, student services, and safe work practices ensures they contribute effectively to a collaborative, service-oriented team.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

• Equivalent to bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field required and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.

Preferred:

• Master's degree, student personnel or other related social sciences is highly preferred.

• Experience working in a multicultural University environment.

• Ability to plan, coordinate, and implement diversity, equity, equity, and inclusion events, programs, and activities

highly preferred.

Physical Summary

  • Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

Licenses / Certificates

Valid California Driver's License to drive University vehicle, preferred.

• Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

  • Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $5,083 - $5,208 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.
  • CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,083 - $7,228 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

Additional Information

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
