Department Summary

Psychology is one of the largest departments in the university and, of the joint doctoral programs SDSU is currently involved with, the JDP in Clinical Psychology is the largest. The function of the Employing Unit is to provide virtually all of the necessary informational, administrative, support, and accreditation services for the SDSUIUCSD Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology (JDP) both for faculty teaching and/or mentoring students in the program and for students. More than 170 faculty members from the SDSU Psychology Department, the SDSU School of Public Health, and the UCSD Department of Psychiatry in the School of Medicine are actively involved in the program. The JDP student body consists of more than 360 alumni and 77 current students. Approximately 700 applicants compete for 12 new student slots each year. Students are accepted into one of three "tracks," and as a result both faculty and students are classified by "track". Although the program is co-sponsored by UCSD and SDSU, the Administrative Support Coordinator handles virtually all of the administrative duties, from application to the program to maintaining student files both via database and hardcopy post-graduation, to interacting with national accrediting bodies and organizations.
