Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Alumni Relations, Marketing and Engagement (AVP), with additional lead work direction from other members of the Advancement leadership team, the Alumni Outreach and Programs Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and initiatives that engage alumni and foster a lifelong connection with the University. In collaboration with other members of the Advancement leadership team, this role focuses on outreach strategy, board management and volunteer coordination, event planning, and alumni communications, with the goal of strategically strengthening alumni participation and support, and also supervises staff and student personnel. The incumbent provides high-level administrative support to the AVP, staff, and general office operations, including planning and executing alumni fundraising and outreach events that strategically engage alumni and current students. The incumbent serves as the primary contact for visitors to the Alumni Engagement Office and interacts with a variety of constituents and communities inside and outside the university.

The incumbent must be able to work night and weekend hours to meet operational needs. 

Key Qualifications

This position requires a minimum of three years of experience in marketing, development, and event planning, including two years of progressively responsible and applicable management and/or supervisory experience. Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Higher education experience highly preferred. Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including proposal development skills. Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation to achieve clear, lively, engaging and compelling copy for various audiences. Excellent collaboration skills, interpersonal skills, demonstrating a desire to promote an inclusive space for donors, alumni, students, and our community. Must possess a strong ability to collaborate with campus and community partners, and initiative and manage projects, budgets, personnel, and vendors. High ethical standards and confidentiality in dealing with all constituencies. Intermediate proficiency with computers, Adobe suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google apps required. Experience with various social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) required. Working knowledge of best practices for promoting news/articles, boosting engagement and analytic tools for these platforms preferred. Knowledge of Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge and CRMs and PeopleSoft preferred.

Salary and Benefits

Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $6,000 to $7,000 a month. This position is a member of the Management Personnel Plan and serves at the pleasure of the President. This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.
