Major Duties

Under the general supervision of the EOP Associate Director and the lead EOP Admissions Outreach Coordinators, the Educational Opportunity Program Transitional Support Trainee supports, advocates, and facilitates the mission of the California State University, Northridge, and the Educational Opportunity Program by discharging responsibilities that promote and encourage historically low-income, educationally disadvantaged and first-generation students to seek higher educational opportunities specifically at CSU, Northridge, and EOP. The incumbent will assist in developing early intermediate and immediate partnership programs for first-time freshmen (FTF) and first-time transfer (FTT) EOP applicants.

  • Support the coordinators and staff with the ongoing maintenance of each program and its activities which are designed to create a seamless pipeline of student applicants from the community into the EOP Program at CSUN.
  • Assist the Coordinators and the EOP Associate Director in all EOP outreach efforts; this includes facilitating clustered partnerships with key high schools identified as having high demand/low yield potential.
  • Establish relationships with the CSUN-EOP Feeder High Schools by providing general information sessions, EOP application workshops, campus tours, and provision of skill-based workshops that help students transition into the University.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field.
  • No experience required.
  • Direct experience with Educational Opportunity and/or Trio Programs is highly desirable.  
  • A valid California Driver's License is preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • General knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior; working knowledge of research and observation techniques for recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information; and working knowledge of the techniques and methods of interviewing.  Demonstrated experience working with multi-cultural/multi-ethnic populations, students that are historically under-represented, under-prepared, low-income, and first-generation college students are preferred.
  •  Ability and specialized skills to: gather and analyze data; ability to reason logically, conclude, and make appropriate recommendations; participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews; clearly express ideas and recommendations orally; write clear and concise reports; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and faculty.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver, and more.
  • Classification: Student Services Professional I / 3079 / 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RATE: $3,764 per month. The salary range for this classification is: $3,764 - $4,604 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.
  • TEMP: Based on satisfactory progress and successful completion of the training program at the SSP IA level, the incumbent will be promoted to the level of SSP IB after 12 months and then to SSP II after 24 months.
  • The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
