Under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Logistical Services, you'll manage a sophisticated computerized property control system for centralized or dispersed property. You'll also prepare and submit statistical and analytical data to support campus-wide projections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, monitor, and reconcile inventory records and reports with precision and timeliness.
  • Record and mark new property, ensuring it is properly released to authorized individuals.
  • Inform employees of their responsibilities and liability for property.
  • Issue directives on the care and movement of property.
  • Handle requests and recommend property transfers.
  • Supervise and participate in periodic and annual inventories and inspections.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies and reconcile property records.
  • Provide training in property accounting methods.
  • Keep meticulous records, dictate correspondence, and prepare reports.
  • Oversee the receipt and disposal of surplus property, determining appropriate actions for items needing repair, salvage, or disposal.
  • Use your computer skills to manage various software applications on PCs.
  • Interact professionally and courteously with customers, vendors, and employees.
  • Collaborate closely with supervisors to address day-to-day operational issues.
  • Adapt to shifting duties based on department needs, deadlines, and workload.
  • Be prepared for shift assignments, unusual hours, and/or overtime.
  • Register and maintain records for all motor vehicles, boats, trailers, and other licensed equipment.

Position Information

  • Full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
  • Position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

Under the general direction and supervision of the Assistant Director, Logistical Services, Material Management (MM) is responsible for the receipt, tagging and inventory control of approximately 22,000 items of university equipment valued at approximately $100,000,000. MM must provide documentation and verification of all material to assure it is in accordance with purchase orders. The department is responsible for ensuring physical inventories of all property are conducted in accordance with State regulations. MM also coordinates all office relocations and acts as the liaison between the University and the moving services contractors. MM is responsible for surplusing all equipment/goods as needed by the campus. Goods/computers will be reused, repurposed, or donated.

Education and Experience

Three years of experience inventorying and maintaining control records for a wide variety of property and equipment or expendable store keeping items. Prospective applicants who have not had the experience listed may be considered eligible based on other evidence of meeting the above minimum qualifications of the position.

Licenses and/or Certifications

  • Valid California Driver’s License or have the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.
  • Forklift Certification required within 60 days of hire; certification will be provided by the employer.

Key Qualifications

  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds without assistance.
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods and practices used to inspect, maintaining, issuing, taking, and recording inventory.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel.
  • Previous inventory or property clerk experience in a higher education environment.
  • Previous experience with Oracle or similar software used to receive and track inventory through the life cycle of property.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,835 per month. 

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,864 - $6,854 per month.
