Department Head - Architectural Engineering in San Luis Obispo
The Architectural Engineering Department is seeking applications for a full-time (12 month) Department Head at the rank of Associate or Full Professor to begin September 1, 2025. The position is tenure track with the possibility for tenure to be granted at the time of the appointment. The ideal candidate will be an inspiring leader who engages the department’s stakeholders in developing and achieving its vision, mission and goals while championing inclusive excellence in teaching, learning, scholarship, research, professional engagement, and service. The position reports to the Dean of the College and carries both administrative and academic duties. The Department Head teaches courses (1/4 time) ranging from first year undergraduate to master’s level and engages in scholarly activities appropriate to tenure status and rank. Civil or structural engineering expertise is required. The Head works closely with faculty and staff to sustain the quality of academic programs and manage the department’s fiscal, human and physical resources.

This role is crucial for managing the procure-to-pay process and establishing procedures for the acquisition of goods, services, construction, and leasing (both equipment and real estate). At Chico State University, the Director of Procurement is responsible for overseeing all procurement activities, ensuring efficient and compliant acquisition aligned with state and federal regulations. Key responsibilities include: • Developing and implementing procurement policies that reflect the university's budgetary constraints, sustainability initiatives, and strategic objectives. • Fostering relationships with vendors, the campus community, and the City of Chico to enhance collaboration and support. • Managing procurement programs, including procurement cards, procure-to-pay systems, savings tracking, and e-catalogs. The role also encompasses real estate responsibilities, such as managing university leases (cell transmitter sites, commercial vendors, off-site real property leases, and auxiliary leases) as well as overseeing real property acquisitions and gifts. This position is accountable for creating, developing, automating, and executing innovative business practices that lead the campus in strategic procurement and supply chain management. In addition to the Director of Procurement & contract services duties, the Associate VP role is accountable for creating, developing, automating, and executing innovative business practices that lead the campus in strategic procurement, distribution services , (which encompasses shipping receiving and mail services), along with property management and the overall supply chain for the campus.
