Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director, the Student Financial Services Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for the Student Account Services and Cashiering departments. The position also oversees key service areas, as needed, including Disbursements, University Collections, and Federal Trust Student Aid Accounting. The Manager is responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of all student financial operations, while fostering compliance with federal, state, and university regulations. In addition, this role leads the enhancement, integration, and implementation of financial systems and technologies to streamline processes, improve service delivery, and support the university’s fiscal and student success goals.


Key Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for the management and oversight of Student Account Services and Cashiering departments operations and functions along with overseeing other service areas, as needed, including Disbursements, University Collections, and Federal Trust Student Aid Accounting.
  • Involvement in the implementation of new functionality and upgrades related to the student and financial systems.
  • Provides support to the office through additional duties and responsibilities.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

  • Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $7,955 - $9,885 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who excels at maintaining cooperative working relationships that support the goals of Student Financial Services. They bring excellent supervisory skills and the ability to apply established customer service principles to effectively train and guide staff in delivering high‑quality service to students, faculty, and staff. This individual capably manages the diverse and high‑volume workload of Student Account Services and Cashiering, demonstrating thorough knowledge of financial record‑keeping methods, governmental accounting practices, and generally accepted accounting principles. With expertise in analyzing complex issues related to automated financial systems and PC software, they skillfully collect, evaluate, and interpret data to develop sound conclusions and make well‑informed recommendations. The ideal candidate can assess operational needs, write and implement procedures that meet departmental, state, and federal requirements, and analyze office activities to identify challenges affecting Student Account Services and Cashiering while offering practical, effective solutions.

Education and Experience

• Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of five years of related experience required (progressively responsible supervisory experience in fiscal management in a medium or large size accounting or higher education organization working in a highly automated financial operation). 

• Experience in higher education, PeopleSoft ERP, and Transact Campus Payments systems is preferred.

• A master's degree in accounting is highly desirable.

Physical Summary

Additional Information

CSULB is not a sponsoring agency for staff and management positions (i.e. H-1B Visas).

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSULB will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Due to the nature of this position, current CSULB employees are subject to a criminal record check unless they have successfully completed a criminal background check through CSULB within the past 12 months.

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

Campus Security Authority: This position serves as a Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act and Executive Order 1107. Incumbent is required to promptly report allegations of Clery qualifying crimes that occur within a campus’ Clery geography.
