Major Duties
Under general supervision, the Custodian role supports daily and seasonal cleaning needs across apartments, community spaces, offices, and guest housing. You’ll help maintain a warm, welcoming environment by completing detailed cleanings, assisting with apartment turnovers, using custodial equipment safely, and supporting campus-wide cleanliness efforts.
- Dusting and cleaning all surfaces.
- Cleaning and disinfecting restrooms and replenishing supplies.
- Clean and maintain campus floors, including sweeping, dry and/or wet mopping; stripping, sealing, waxing, and polishing floors.
- Clean entire apartments and turn over apartments in various areas of campus housing.
- Ensures clean and safe handling of all custodial supplies, and transports cleaning supplies to various buildings using electric carts and/or custodial supply carts.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

LICENSE: CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER’S LICENSE.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Demonstrated understanding of cleaning techniques, sanitation standards, chemical use, and proper handling of custodial supplies. Ability to apply appropriate methods for surface care, floor maintenance, restroom sanitation, and safe operation of powered and non-powered cleaning equipment across varied facility types.
- Ability to complete routine and specialized cleaning duties—including dusting, disinfecting, polishing, window and glass care, graffiti removal, carpet care, restroom cleaning, and trash handling—with accuracy and consistency. Skilled in adapting cleaning approaches to different building areas, surfaces, and conditions.
- Capacity to evaluate cleaning needs, organize supplies and equipment, and complete assigned tasks within required timeframes. Ability to respond promptly to custodial emergencies, adjust to changing priorities, and maintain orderly, secure work areas by properly locking/ unlocking facilities and safeguarding spaces.
- Skill in safely using and maintaining floor machines, vacuums, carpet extractors, and related equipment. Ability to load/unload materials, transport supplies across campus housing facilities, and navigate varied building layouts while maintaining safe and effective cleaning operations.
- Ability to read and write English at a level appropriate to the duties of the position, and follow verbal and written instructions.
- May require ability to move up to 50 pounds.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
- The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver and more.
- Classification: 2010 / Custodian / 1
- The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $3461 - $3747 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $3461 - $4752 per month.
- HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday. May include evenings and weekends.
- This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
- The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
