| This position works independently under the general direction of the Department Chair, providing direct support to the Chair and serving as the primary front-line administrative resource for the department. The incumbent ensures continuity and stability within the central department office, coordinates daily operations, and provides lead work direction to staff, including one ASA II and student employees.
The position is responsible for handling confidential personnel matters; scheduling courses; calculating faculty workload; processing curriculum changes; and overseeing all aspects of the department’s budget. This includes managing purchasing activities for equipment, supplies, travel, professional development, and other operational expenses. The incumbent also provides training to faculty and staff on departmental and university procedures.
The Department of Biological Sciences includes a full-time Department Chair, 15 full-time tenure-track faculty, 12 part-time faculty, nine teaching associates, five full-time and one part-time instructional support technicians, one ASA II, 10 student assistants, and approximately 2,600 students enrolled in biology coursework. |
