San Francisco State University, Department/School of History offers an exciting opportunity for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Race and Ethnicity in the United States, 19th and 20th centuries, beginning August 2020.

We seek a colleague who can contribute to the excellence of our undergraduate and graduate programs, which annually serves approximately 400 history majors and minors and 50 graduate students as well as six thousand students through our General Education contributions.

Our department is recognized for our curricular innovation, focus on student learning, and research excellence. We are also a very collegial and community-engaged group of scholar-teachers. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the excellence of the academic community. The position requires undergraduate and graduate teaching in Race and Ethnicity in the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as one-half of the US History survey and/or California History survey and seminars serving undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, the successful application will advise graduate and undergraduate students, developing an active ongoing program of creative and scholarly work in one’s area of specialty, and contribute to department and college through ongoing committee and service assignments. •Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree. Terminal degree must be completed by the first day of employment.
•Record of working and communicating effectively with colleagues and students.
•Demonstrated ability to incorporate inclusion, diversity, and educational equity in teaching, and/or in scholarship/creative works

•Experience teaching and working closely with students from historically under-represented communities
•Active record of scholarship related to the history of race and ethnicity in the United States, 19th and/or 20th century.
•Record of contributing to collegial, supportive and collaborative work environments
