Compensation and Benefits

Salary is competitive and negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. This is a CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP)

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Working at the direction of the Director of Athletics, the Deputy Director oversees the day-to-day operations of the Athletics Department.  This position oversees the internal organization of the department, ensuring consistency with the overall mission, goals and objectives of the University, the Mountain West Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.  Along with the Director of Athletics, the Deputy Director has signature authority in the absence of the Director of Athletics and acts on his/her behalf in matters relating to the department. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the oversight of internal units and selected sports service areas including the athletics business office, ticket operations, external communications, facilities, third-party contracts (Concessionaire Bulldog Shop, and Learfield/ Bulldog Sports Properties), student-athlete academic services, sports medicine/training, and strength and conditioning. The Deputy Director serves as the liaison for all departmental efforts as assigned by the Athletic Director. The Deputy Director also provides leadership, direction and supervision to all sports supervisors and several high profile Head Coaches. 

The Deputy Director must possess an energetic leadership style and, in concert with the Director of Athletics, have the ability to make decisions, problem solve and recommend long-range fiscal and operational plans.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, written and oral skills
  • Ability to provide direction to Head Coaches and programs with regard to recruiting, budgeting, scheduling and student-athlete well-being
  • Ability to identify and foresee issues
  • Strong problem solving skills required; ability to initiate and implement plans to solve problems
  • Ability to work cohesively with different Divisions on campus and present recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices
  • Strong knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations including Title IX requirements.
  • Strong networking skills required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities while promoting collaboration in a team-oriented environment

Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Experience: Five years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a Division I collegiate athletics program
