About the Department/Position:
Under general supervision of the Manager, Building Trades the Locksmith is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of locking systems, security devices, fabricating and distribution of keys. Typical duties include but are not limited to maintaining computerized access control systems; working on doors, door hardware and all types of locks, locking equipment and their components. The incumbent may estimate and order materials and render feedback on project costs, access control policies and types of locking systems for use on campus. The incumbent will perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures; maintain a safe and clean work environment; maintain records, retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems; prepare standard reports for managers review.
Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform skilled locksmith work & electronic access control device work.
- Maintain a computerized inventory and master locking system records. Maintain and implement campus-wide master lock, electronic access control, & key program.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience that demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a locksmith’s apprenticeship program.
- Valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the locksmith and access control trade.
- Thorough familiarity with all types of locks, fastening devices, electronic access control devices, and related hardware.
- Awareness of applicable state codes pertaining to the locksmith trade including those related to fire exists, door hardware and fastening devices.
- Comprehensive knowledge of master key & access control key systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Locksmith
- Five years of experience as a journey-level locksmith that included training in master key and access control systems.
