Position Description

    • Position Summary
    • (Classified as: Student Services Professional IV)

      Full-time temporary position available on or after September 1, 2025 and ending on or before August 31, 2026 in the Warrior Re-engagement Center. Appointment will be made for one year from date of hire with the possibility of reappointment and/or becoming permanent based on budget, department needs, and job performance.


      Under direction, the Project Rebound & Promise Scholars Coordinator provides leadership and direct support for students in both programs, including current/former foster youth, students experiencing homelessness, and formerly incarcerated individuals. This role emphasizes trauma-informed, culturally responsive advising and case management to support academic, personal, and career success. The Coordinator delivers individualized advising, workshops, academic & personal success interventions, and referrals to campus and community resources, serving as a key point of contact for participants and exercising sound judgment in addressing complex student needs. They also lead programming, support strategic planning and assessment, and collaborate with campus and community partners to build support networks and advocate for systemic change. The incumbent may support other areas such as the Educational Opportunity Program or Warrior Re-Engagement Center, based on department needs. Additional responsibilities include supporting program admissions, maintaining accurate documentation through systems like EAB Navigate, Maxient, and PeopleSoft, and contributing to ongoing evaluation and compliance efforts. This role may also serve as a lead or “working supervisor” for support staff or interns. If the incumbent holds an MSW, they may supervise MSW interns, offering mentorship in line with professional standards

    • Job Duties
    • Duties include but are not limited to:
      • Serve as the primary point of contact for high-need students, supporting them through sensitive, multifaceted issues with care, empathy, and discretion. 
      • Provide holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive advising to students in the program, using advanced counseling techniques and a deep understanding of educational and systemic challenges. 
      • Implement non-clinical case management methodologies to meet emergent and/or urgent needs of students as needed. 
      • Conduct comprehensive assessments of student needs, academic history, and personal circumstances to design individualized support strategies. 
      • Navigate complex and often ambiguous student challenges with a high level of autonomy, exercising sound professional judgment in developing solutions. 
      • Advocate on behalf of individual students and program populations to faculty, staff, and senior administration, ensuring their needs are considered in institutional practices. 
      • Support students in overcoming institutional barriers, responding to crises, and accessing on- and off-campus services. 
      • Maintain detailed case records and documentation for advising interactions, academic progress, referrals, and follow-up actions. 
      • Remain current on relevant policies at the CSU, CCC, county, and state levels, and advise students accordingly to support compliance and access to services. 
      •  Collaborate with the Director to evaluate evolving student needs, identify service gaps, and develop strategic program improvements. 
      • Lead outreach and recruitment initiatives, including partnerships with high schools, reentry programs, community-based organizations, and social service agencies. 
      • Coordinate and implement student-centered initiatives such as workshops, outreach events, and milestone celebrations (e.g., orientation, graduation) that foster engagement and belonging. 
      • Coordinate interdepartmental and external collaborations to build comprehensive resource networks for program students. 
      • Assist with annual assessment, strategic planning, and budget development using data informed decision-making frameworks. 
      • Maintain and analyze data related to student engagement, retention, and graduation; prepare reports to meet compliance, grant, and internal reporting requirements. 
      • Draft grant proposals, mid-cycle reports, and impact summaries in collaboration with institutional research and development teams. 
      • Recruit, onboard, and provide lead supervision, training, and mentorship to graduate-level interns (e.g., MSW Interns), ensuring alignment with program learning goals and professional standards. 
      • Recommend changes to program structure, service models, and administrative processes in alignment with broader institutional priorities. 
      • Lead comprehensive program evaluations to assess impact on student learning, retention, and overall program effectiveness. 
      • Develop and administer student needs assessments, surveys, and focus groups to inform responsive and equity-centered service delivery. 
      • Create training materials, student resource guides, and informational content aligned with program goals and student development theory. 
      • Propose strategic changes to policies, procedures, and workflows to improve program responsiveness and institutional integration. 
      • Serve as a key contributor to department-wide assessment and accreditation efforts, ensuring compliance with university standards and external regulations. 
      • Maintain documentation of student data, assessments, and web-based materials in accordance with FERPA, accreditation, and CSU policy.
      •  May be required to obtain additional training and/or certification as part of professional development, based on department and/or campus needs, to stay current with industry standards. 
      • The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this classification. 
      • At the direction of appropriate administrator, may provide support to other departments/areas within functional area/department as needed.

    • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and job related conflict resolutions.

      Experience: Equivalent to four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems. (A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal or career or counseling.) 

    • Preferred Qualifications

      • Four (4) years of direct experience supporting foster youth, formerly or currently incarcerated individuals, or unaccompanied homeless youth, as demonstrated through prior roles. 
      • Experience facilitating student transitions by addressing barriers such as housing instability, financial aid access, trauma, or navigating intersecting systems of care. 
      • Experience with reentry or wraparound support services, including referrals to housing, mental health, legal aid, or workforce development resources. 
      • Experience with planning and leading workshops, orientation sessions, or student engagement events. 
      • Experience working with diverse student populations, including those from underserved, low-income, or system-impacted backgrounds.
      • Prior experience in a higher education or university setting. 
      • Hands-on experience using student support or case management systems such as EAB Navigate, Maxient, or PeopleSoft. 
      • Experience working with community-based organizations focused on social justice, reentry, foster care, or related areas. 
      • Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related

      • General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field. 
      • General knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the overall operation, functions, and organizational procedures of the campus. 
      • Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. 
      • Ability to interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations.
      •  Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures, activities, and practices of the program area to which assigned, or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge. 
      • General knowledge of the policies, practices and activities of Student Services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned. 
      • General knowledge of the principles, problems and methods of public administration, including organizational, personnel and fiscal management. 
      • General knowledge of interview techniques and advanced statistical and research methods. 
      • Ability to carry out very complex assignments without detailed instructions. 
      • Ability to advise students individually or in groups on varied and complex matters.

    • Special Conditions

      • May be required to work after-hours, evenings, or weekends. 
      • May be required to travel between Turlock and Stockton Campuses. 
      • May be required to stay overnight in on campus housing in support of the annual Summer Bridge Program, based on department needs. 
      • May be required to participate in periodic outdoor events and activities.
    • Salary Range
    • Anticipated salary will be $$6,320 - $6,952 per month plus excellent paid benefits. Salary will depend on the qualifications of the successful finalist. (Full Student Services Professional IV range: $6,320 - $9,014 per month)
