JOB SUMMARY

New TAs will teach at least one section of Math 1402 (Preparation for Calculus A), with some exceptions. Other duties may include teaching certain support labs, and attending certain meetings (e.g., course coordination) and/or professional development (e.g., orientation). TAs may have opportunity to teach other 1000-level courses, depending on availability and teaching experience.  TAs are responsible for their own classes, working for the Mathematics Department under the supervision of the M.A. Coordinator, TA Coordinator, course coordinators and/or other faculty.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

Pending budgets, enrollments, and class availability, TAs are offered the opportunity to teach one or more 1000 level Mathematics courses as instructor of record. TAs attend coordination meetings as well as a one day orientation prior to the start of Fall semester.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Fully Classified Graduate Student in the Mathematics MA program, in good academic standing

 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • The successful applicant must be a fully Classified Graduate Student in the Mathematics MA program, in good academic standing, by the time of appointment. Teaching Associates must be enrolled in classes every semester in which they hold a TA appointment. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Teaching, tutoring, or similar classroom experience

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Mathematics is one of nine departments within the College of Natural Sciences. We offer four bachelor's degrees, a Master's degree, a minor in mathematics and a minor in statistics, as well as a Certificate in Introductory Actuarial Mathematics and a Subject Matter AuthorizationMost of our students are the first in their families to go to college. More than half of our students are members of minority groups, and one quarter are from groups traditionally underrepresented in the sciences.
