This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before 06/30/2020, with the possibility of reappointment and/or permanency. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The incumbent will help carry out the communications, public affairs and marketing programs of the Division of Student Affairs. Under the supervision of the Director of Communications, the incumbent will conduct interviews, research, write, edit and proofread print and electronically based communication materials – including stories for News for Aztec Parents, NewsCenter, @State and external publication submissions.
The incumbent also will shoot and edit digital photography; write and produce short marketing and social media videos, write, post and manage social media as necessary; manage website content and blogs as needed; and assist in developing marketing campaigns for specific initiatives.
The incumbent will assist in providing guidance to student assistants on specific assignments.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $3,162 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $2,923 - $5,129 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

The position requires knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations, and/or some exposure to marketing and marketing research. This background normally is obtained through a college degree, which includes relevant coursework in the field, and up to two years of related professional or technical experience. In addition, strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles are essential to initial entry to this classification.
Specialized Skills Required
Strong writing abilities in journalistic and informational formats.
Basic knowledge of Associated Press style
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, PhotoShop and Adobe Creative Suite software
Experience with content management systems and blogging platforms.
Ability to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information.
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, marketing, or similar major with at least two years of related experience.
Proofreading skills with a strong foundation in grammar, spelling and composition.
Knowledge of graphic design techniques and printing production processes
Experience in taking and editing digital photos.
Experience in shooting, editing or producing short videos.
Social media experience and video-producing capability.
Ability to meet deadlines and strong people skills.
Understanding of marketing concepts.
Organized and detail-oriented.
Ability to conduct research and interviews.
